I obviously don't know nearly as much as John ... as I have a few questions regarding his recommendation of this particular kit for loading 9mm ...

1. not really a question ... but a $75 balance scale?!
That's why this kit costs more than the Lee kit.

2. I see it comes with a "case lube kit" ... $17.50 at Midway ... ya gonna lube them 9mm cases?
Yup, total waste of money. That's why some kits are better buys than other.

3. I see a "deburr tool" ... $17 at Midway ... gonna deburr your 9mm cases?
Another total waste of money.

4. I see it also comes with a "hand priming tool" ... on-sale for almost $33 at Midway, right now ... I don't have a RockChucker, myself ... but is that, or is that not, a priming "arm" on the front of the press?
NOT a waste of money!! Hand priming tools do not require you to fill @#%#%$#&^^%$*&^%&^!!! primer tubes, and as such are faster. Only drawback to this is it's not as simple as the Lee, which came first, and they had to jury rig the design to get around Lee's patent!
5. also comes with a "powder funnel" ... almost $6 at Midway ... also rated only 2 stars for some reason ... looks no bigger than the Uniflow ... or without the case-activated linkage, is there otherwise no "drop tube" suitably sized for 9mm?

6. is that a "hex wrench set" I see there, too? ... $11 at Midway ... nothin' from nothin', but every Hornady die set I ever bought (and I bought a lot of 'em) came with a hex-wrench for the lock-ring ... what exactly are all the other wrenches in the set for?

I will say, that Uniflow is nice! ... started with one, myself (despite my own ignorance, 'course) ... albeit, I also started with the case-activated linkage kit, and a Lee turret ... man, was that slick! Probly won't do ya no good on a single-stage though, eh?

Oh ya ... if ya actually got the Speer #13, watch out if ya ever load .40sw ... they got a bad load, in there, IIRC.

Anyhow, I know lots of guys've got RockChuckers, and like 'em plenty good ... never heard no one say a bad thing 'bout 'em ... so, I'm sure ya'll be happy.

This is why some kits are NOT a bargain.

I think I got my MEC 600 Jr. 20ga about 30 seconds after you got yours ... anyhow, you're about dead-on, with your assessment. Closest thing to the MEC 600 would probly be a Lee Turret ... The first pic is the entrance wound, the second is slight expansion, the third is the .45 caliber projectile still lodged in the chrono. Needless to say, the photo eyes were obliterated.
Oh, but there's more...
Same shooter, another not-one-of-the-shooter's chronographs. This time he just wasted the screens.
I was hoping he would just put my 25 year old tripod out of its misery while he was at it.

Rust is a problem when the night temps are cool enough to keep the steel cold while the morning air temp moves above the dew point. That's when you get condensation and the corrosion ensues.

Two simple solutions: Heat the metal above the dew point all the time, or run a dehumidifier all the time (which will induce some heat into the space as well).

Something as simple as a box with a light bulb in it is enough to keep the metal warm out there.

You can also liberally oil the dies when you stop using them, and then have to clean them before using them again - but that seems like a bad idea given the outcome if you forgot and got some oil in the case.

I hope this is a REALLY, REALLY GOOD friend, because in general reloading ammo for other people as a favor is putting yourself at risk if anything bad happens. The same goes for your friend, trusting that you are fully knowledgable and an EXPERT handloader, because most of us wouldn't shoot anybody else's handloads no matter what. The fact that you're in here asking for data is not a good sign, because if you're doing this and then giving the ammo to somebody else, you really should have the new Hornady manual itself. (Plus the Speer, Nosler, and Lyman manuals, at a bare minumum if you're contemplating reloading stuff for other people.) Even if your friend would never sue you, what happens if he gives some of your reloaded ammo to a friend of his who doesn't know about needing to use flat point bullets in a Winchester 94, and the friend's friend gun blows up?? Once you give your handloads to somebody else, you lose control over how they will be used, and no matter how stupid somebody may be who gets ahold of those loads, your butt is on the line 100% for any injuries.

And yes, we had a case where somebody here loaded up some hot 9mm ammo and gave some to a friend, and luckily the guy who loaded the ammo had a case blow out with attendant damage to the gun and his hand. Needless to say, he was in a complete panic to get ahold of his friend to get his handloaded ammo back. Stuff like this DOES happen!!

I doubt the humidity level is high enough in the garage to do any damage. IMHO!

Do you have any trouble with rust?
I'd like to get a bench set up but I have zero space for one inside the house. I've thought about trying to do it in the garage but it's awfully moist in there when the cars come in loaded with snow or even after driving in the rain and I worried that anything metal will have a nice coating of rust pretty quickly.
Another question, where do you store your powder and primers?

some folks can't bring themselves to admit that deer hunting is just an excuse for them to go out and buy the slickest, most powerful face melter they can afford. "Adequate" has nothing to do with firearm choice for some. The next rabbit I pop will be done in with either a .44 magnum or a 5.56... nuff said. Then again all I use for deer is a .44 mag rifle, or a 12 ga. I've been scoffed at several times for my wimpy deer guns But then I wonder who the real idiot is, when the scoffer whips out something that could drop a polar bear at 2500 yards... and then generally that's the same guy who makes 12'' groups at 100 yards... Ok enough of my musing.

Anyway if the above isn't true, I can't figure out why some people insist on liquefying their venison. Must be a heck of a thing to field dress, not to mention you have to wonder how much bad stuff gets into good stuff when 3000+ fps implodes a deer.

According to some books on sniping (and none of us would argue anything about Mr. Hathcock right?), .308 removes heads and body parts at anywhere under 1000 yards, and kills beyond 2000. So why would anyone need anything more for a 600 yard shot?

This all seems like a silly question by a knowledgeable guy. Unless the spirit of the issue is "why? Because I/he can." In that case, who effen cares. Buy the biggest, meanest caliber you/he can find that recoils about like a 30-06. I'd suggest...
