Re: Which books?

Someday I'd like to reload. In the mean time, I figure I should read a few books. I see the ABCs of reloading and the latest editions from hornady, Lyman, Speer and Sierra recommended on MNGT. Which are the best in terms of pistol reloading? I have no interest in rifle at this time. Fer pistol, I u...

Re: Safe Queens - Loaner Forum

No EFFEN way!! One safe queen I have is NIB and has never been fired. Beyond that, most of them are quite rare and irreplaceable. And last but not least, I sure as hell wouldn't let anybody shoot their handloads in my gun, and how would I know with the ammo shortage out there if the ammo ACTUALLY us...

Re: Some .300 win mag load data

It can be applied but with a very low confidence level. 5 should be a minimum, 10 is even better. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2 Thank you!! I kind of figured that from the fact that if you didn't have 5 shots in a string, your Millenium chrono would refuse to calculate an SD for you. Plus ...

Re: Some .300 win mag load data

Not to be too picky, but you need to standardize on a string length, and the conventional wisdom is that you need 5 shots for the SD to mean much. Worse than that, you can REALLY lead yourself astray by comparing SD's of 3 shots with SD's of 4 shots or 5 shots. I'm not up enough on the stat theory t...

Re: Some .300 win mag load data

Very impressive SD's. How many shots for each string, and how many strings did you shoot at different powder weights, and what were the weights? Also got lost on which bullet you're trying to make work. Generally, I do ten strings of 5 each to work up a rifle load in two tenths or three tenths grain...

Re: Small Pistol vs. Small Magnum Pistol Primers

Well, I've been reloading 40 years and a bit, and I honestly can't give you an honest answer to your question. Nobody I know has ever been desperate enough to try that, so the answer could be "the load will be hotter" or "the load blew up and now I'm in the ER". With the Smith 50...

SS's EFFEN Little Acronym Dictionary!!

In response to a recent mind boggling post, I thought it was finally time to put this down on "paper" so I could refer to it from time to time with a link, and everybody would know what I was EFFEN saying. You might want to bookmark this one... RTFM - Read The Effen Manual!! NFM - No Effen...

Re: New Rock Island 10 MM Tactical 1911

Well, the OP is on my Ignore list, but the topic was so interesting I read it anyway. I have also heard good things about RI from a number of 1911 experts, and was surprised they would go the 10mm route. To the OP I will say: Gee, you went ahead and just decided to start loading 10mm just because yo...

Re: OGC Members

I might be able to make it tomorrow afternoon, and we can always shoot on the 25 if it's raining. For that matter, I have a really sucky job of pouring a concrete pad this morning, and might need some R&R this afternoon. PM me your phone number, and I'll let you know. I have a Millenium II with ...

Re: Hand held primeing tool??

I've been using the Lee autoprime since it came out over 30 years ago. As far as I'm concerned, all the others are copies that were made to skirt Lee's very ingenious patent. In the time it takes you to fill up a primer tube, you can just about be done priming 50 9mm or 45 cases. And case holders ar...

Re: Anyone have any experience with this scale (or the brand?)

To the OP: If you actually do buy that scale, I am curious enough that I would be willing to come over to your place with my .001 gram Mettler lab balance and check it out. Obviously, the subject of cheap scales that are weighing 6.0 grains of powder and adding +/-.3 grains of pure electronic BS or ...
