Re: Ruger Alaskan and IDPA

My mistake for not looking up the specs on the Alaskan to see if it made weight for IDPA Stock Service Revolver division. Bad assumption on my part. So, yes, the weight puts it in Enhanced Service Revolver division. But, so what? What is your intention of wanting to shoot that gun? Do you want to ge...

Re: Ruger Alaskan and IDPA

thanks for the link. Thats not too far away. How does that power factor stuff work? Power factor is bullet weight, in grains, times velocity, in fps. So, to make 105,000 with a 240 grain bullet you need 438 fps minimum. Spitball territory. For background, in the Stock Service Revolver division the ...

Re: Ruger Alaskan and IDPA

The Ruger Alaskan is fine for IDPA. Just find at least 3 speedloaders for it and a holster and speedloader pouches and you'll be fine. You'd be shooting Stock Service Revolver division with it. For that division all you need for ammo is 105,000 power factor so you can go pretty slow with a .44 bulle...

For the match at Minnetonka Game and Fish Club, the match setup starts at 9:00, so everyone should arrive at that time. The website for IDPA at MGFC is: http://www.mgfc-action-shooting.org/idpa/index1.html I'm the match director for IDPA at MGFC however, as IDPA Shooter mentioned, Jack Smith is runn...

Re: Of all states, my brother picks....

There's also New Hampshire. It's real easy, just send their form, a copy of your MN permit & DL, and $100 and they mail you a 4 year non-resident permit that's good in ND. They used to be $25 which made them real popular, but are still reasonable since you don't have to pay for passport photos o...

Re: Lead Level in Blood

If you are a reloader, Richard Lee's book asserts that the process of sifting brass after cleaning is a huge source of lead exposure. Picture yourself holding a sifting pan and shaking it (generating leaded dust) right under your face. Also, my suspicion is that a person's age and where you grew up ...

Does this mean that the MvM will be very unfriendly for a 6-shot revolver? HicapLady has her heart set on using her 625 to embarrass me once again.

Re: IDPA Starts Wednesday at Faribault

The highlight of the evening was 12 pounds of tannerite at 275 yards, shot with a .300 Win Mag.

If you notice the momentary blur when it lit off, that was because it shook the ground!

Norinco 1911 Commander

Here's the deal, I just traded a mint Norinco 1911 45 ACP Commander size gun in to a local gun dealer, so he now has it for sale. I purchased the gun new back in that short window before their importation was banned. The gun is like new, I recall putting a few hundred rounds through it, and has the ...

Re: Range Safety Video

Joe, At 0:54 it indicates the max bullet velocity allowed, but shows a high velocity shotshell - which is nowhere close to the velocity limit. The limit is really applying to those varmint exploding rifle rounds. And, just wondering, what's the intended use of the video? Make all the range users wat...
