Re: Testing handloads in a JP Rem 700 - UPDATE!

Well, I had no idea Berger was going to come out with any .338 VLD,s but yes, I am drooling like Tootsie when he sees a whole herd of SHEEP all alone in a pasture. (Or Cabana boys around a pool, for that matter!!) You might want to give jprifles.com a call and see if John Paul will still make you a...

Re: Testing handloads in a JP Rem 700 - UPDATE!

In addition, the bullet with the highest BC this side of the 50 BMG is the Sierra .338 300 grain matchking, which has a BC of .768. Nothing else but Lost River bullets that are $2+ EACH can compare to this BC, which is why I bought this gun to begin with. I bet all the talk of Bergers new 338 VLD's...

Re: Forest Lake Sportsman's Club

They do not have a waiting list right now, I think the economy has caused in increase in people not wanting to pay the yearly dues so there are open slots. Its a great place to shoot for the most part, I live in Minneapolis and can be up there on a weeknight in 30-40 mins, less than 30 on weekends, ...

Re: Forest Lake Sportsman's Club

I'm a member and would say the setup is ok, I'd give it a 6/10, you cant shoot prone, only bench work I'll be honest and say they leave something to be desired, but do function. They also have some crazy cement tubes that you have to shoot thru, they help with sound and also prevent any really bad s...

Re: Savage 243 project, long range, first test

Thanx for the compliments on the caliber, I was tempted by some of the other 6mm bench rounds and I almost went with the .243 AI but in the end I didn't think it was worth the trouble for the slight gains they offered. I like knowing I can walk into just about any store and find .243 WIN on the shel...

Re: Savage 243 project, long range, first test

I'd be interested to know why you would discourage shooting moly and uncoated in the same barrel. As would I, I switch it up in just about every rifle I own and haven’t noticed any ill effects, also I lurk/post on 6mmbr.com all the time and cant say that I've ever seen that topic/idea come up, but ...

Re: Savage 243 project, long range, first test

That is some very impressive accuracy for the cost. I didn't even realize Savage offered just actions. In fear of even sounding dumber yet, can you tell me what this means and why you needed to do it? "(I had to swap out the bolt head and mill the baffle down)". The front of the bo...

Re: Savage 243 project, long range, first test

Wow, what a great rifle. It's nice to see more people taking Savage rifles seriously. When I bought my .270 savage 110, people gave me crap because it wasn't a Remington or Winchester. Whats the camera set- up for? Yeah I think Savage is by far the best bang for the buck out there right now. The ca...

SOLD LEUPOLD 6.6-20 -40mm Silver Target / Varmint scope

I’m looking to step up to a 42X Nightforce so I need to fund the purchase by selling something. This is a great scope, other then 25 rounds on a .243 its only been on my 10/22 match rifle. Its perfect in every way, no scratches no ring marks, I even sent it into them to have it gone thru, so its fre...

Re: Savage 243 project, long range, first test

Nice! How are you liking your Mcgowen Barrel? Do you have any excessive copper fouling? I have one on my .260 and it's been no problems whatsoever. I'm just asking because Mcgowen used to have a bad rep when it comes to copper deposits in the grooves, but it looks like they have got their act toget...

Re: Savage 243 project, long range, first test

Outstanding!! Well done Sir. Thank you sir, there is something very rewarding about picking parts and building it yourself, first time I head spaced a rifle but I think I will be building most of my rifles from now on. The Savage Target accutrigger is intense, can be adjusted down to 2oz, its crazy...
