What Media works the best, Walnut shell or corn cob? At one time I was told about something from a pet store, what would that be?

I have a bunch of 45 auto brass that I primed several years ago, it has tarnished and turned dark, would it be safe to tumble this? I know some of the media will get into the flash hole, but I would think the flash of the primer would push it out. What do you think?
