Re: What gauge, choke & shot for pheasant?

I have been using Prairie Storm #5 exclusively for the last couple of years...

In my pump I run F, and in my O/U I run M/IC. I almost prefer my pump for sharpies, as most shots are lengthy. They don't hold and fly straight up like a rooster...

Re: grouse reports

I have encountered birds every time out, whether walking with the dogs, road-hunting, etc... Well over 150 encounters this season as of today. Nearly all of the birds I'm seeing are still holding in/near hazelnuts, which are still hanging in most areas, and are getting their catkins picked over quic...

Re: Deer Processing

I skin and cut off the cuts I want myself and for my dad with all of the deer we shoot. The trimmings and cuts we don't want get taken to the locker. I hear people say stuff about "getting someone elses meat" at a locker, but at ours they box and label what you bring in and the meat comes ...

No doubt! Nelly was ready right away, but Gauge was literally sore until this morning. He's also 10, and fat... ;)

Re: Grouse hunting

As for woodcock... I love 'em! Wrap 'em in bacon and dust them with Lawry's, toss them on a hot grill and flash 'em. Wonderful creature that adds a ton of fun to each hunt. I have also added them in when making sharptail fajitas and they do the job. The two main things about woodcock hunting... you ...

Re: Grouse hunting

Ruffies will fly across anything, clearing, pasture, farm field... We watch them fly back and forth over our rape fields all year while deer hunting. They are not afraid to move for food or good roosting. However, I have also seen a lot of sharpies in trees over the years. I've watched coveys of 30+...

Re: Holster for .44 Mag...

Wow, I've taken so much away from this thread.... Great advice splattered on this one... So far I've been told to buy a different gun, buy a larger gun, quit carrying, or buy two fancy-nancy holsters that serve no purpose other than to look pretty at John Wayne day at the fair. I'm gathering ...

Re: Holster for .44 Mag...

Now we're talking... a 15" in .44 Mag would be pretty sweet!

It was 4-5 years ago, and it was a hard step and a loud "BooF". I shat myself and left.

Re: Holster for .44 Mag...

I've got 13 bears wanting what I carry in every day, and I've had a sow bluff me, I will continue to carry while checking baits... ;) Thanks for all of the opinions/advice, guys! I think the cross-draw is out. I hate my hip holster now, and I don't think that would solve anything. I've considered th...

Holster for .44 Mag...

I have a Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Mag in the 7.5" variety. I use it primarily for bear guiding, baiting protection, and bear hunting. Some tinkering and fun shooting here and there. This bear season I've decided that I hate my current holster, which is a Hunter series side holster. It's perfec...

Competitions in NW MN....

Anyone ever hear of any IPSC, IDPA, or ANY pistol competitions in NW MN? Even as far south as DL or Fergus, Brainerd, etc... I live in Bemidji and would love to find something relatively local. Will also travel WAY north, anywhere from I Falls west along the border.

Re: Clockwork Orange midnight @ Willow Creek

What is Willow Creek? Do they showcase modern classics often? Clockwork is a great film. Though it's pretty simple, bland at times, and it goes almost nowhere conclusive, the cinematography, use of color and lighting, and the psychological queries it makes you conjure up are great. I watched it roug...
