I too was curious about Sand Dunes and in late 2010, early 2011 I emailed Jim Abernathy of the DNR and inquired about target shooting there. His response was that target shooting was allowed in all state forests EXCEPT Sand Dunes. I neglected to ask why, but imagine it's because of private property ...

Sand Dunes is the only state forest where target shooting is PROHIBITED. All others are fine. This from James Abernathy of the DNR. As always call and verify before doing.

Per an email response from Jim Abernathy of the DNR the only State Forest land you CANNOT target shoot in is Sand Dunes. :D

Noob

Another lurker that decided to finally join. Been working in the hvac field for 23 years, army veteran and long time hunter/shooter. Looking forward to learning and sharing with like minded others. Live in northern metro with wife and two teens. All enjoy range trips and general outdoors.
