Re: Best polishing areas for 1911?

You know if you polish all the 'right' spots on the trigger mechanism you can get yourself a great case of hammer follow - which will impress the heck out of all your friends on the range. If you really want to play gunsmith a few 'precise' bends in the main spring will give you some amazing results.

Re: Best Brand of ammo

Shotgun I run Fiocchi Golden Pheasant and Hevi-Shot Classic Doubles. Self defense I run Hornady or Federal, rifle I reload 100%. Pistol I reload most but in 9mm I run Winchester, Fiocchi, Federal, Hornady, or Remington. 22 federal. I've never had any trouble with any of the brands above. I tried Bla...

Re: Best polishing areas for 1911?

You do realize that slide to frame fit is way way down the list on things that make a 1911 accurate - or most hand guns for that part. The frame basically is the handle, mag holder and firing method. Once the firing pin drops it has little impact on the mechanics afterwards. Some will say that if th...

Re: 41 Mag Plated Bullets

Even if someone made it thru the charging step, would the seating/crimping step make the diff between 41 mag and spl blatantly obvious? Gee you think, if the spl got mixed with the mag, you might notice the bullet almost falling out. If you had a mag mixed with a spl the bullet almost flush with th...

Re: 41 Mag Plated Bullets

Dutch, 45 ACP and super are the same externally the difference is the webbing(internal dimensions) This variation creates a difference in volume thus pressure, much like case length. The point is case length is much easier to visually to detect and concern was expresses about someone(who was ignoran...

Re: Best polishing areas for 1911?

I have to assume you're intentionally trying to get a rise out of the group. The fact you ask about using a dremel on the slide can only be a joke. If not, polish the crap out of every surface and then once you've ruined the gun use it for a paper weight. A new range officer should not need anything...

Re: 41 Mag Plated Bullets

....the thought of a relative newbie buying both kinds of brass, and then keeping those two cases completely separate from each other even though they are going into the same gun seemed like an accident waiting to happen. ... Not what I would call a newbie to reloading, 30+ years loading; I would e...

Re: 41 Mag Plated Bullets

My x-treme plated bullets came with instructions to load between lead and jacketed data. I am using Bullseye with them and it seems fine for 25 yd accuracy. Have you tried looking through your loading manuals for 41 Special data?? I can't find a listing for that specific cartridge. As it turns out,...

41 Mag Plated Bullets

I'm going to load up my first 41 mag rounds and picked up some Berry plated 210gr projectiles. Looked through my 4 manuals and they have jacketed and lead recipes but nothing specific to plated. Berry's website indicates to use lead charge weights or low power jacketed (under 1200fps). I don't shoot...

Re: Larger bore Wheelgun

I just picked up a S&W 41 Mag. I like unusual rounds so I went with the 41 over a 44. I also have a Coonan in 357 just to be different.

Re: Hornady Magnum Sonic cleaner

If you had the rack sitting on the bottom it would not take long for the sonic vibration to make a hole. Basically you are rubbing two pieces of metal against each other a few million times a minute with no lubrication - something is going to give. I think all the new units have plastic baskets. Als...

Re: St Paul Police Union up Mayoral candidates butt about guns

If folks want to join a union they should be able to, however no one should be required to join just because someone has declared the place a union shop. In turn companies should be able to bargain with who ever they want. If they want to negotiate with each individual that is fine, if they want to ...

Re: AR Upper/Lower Set

The assist thing is not a big deal, just seems like an unneeded part and cleans up the right side. I'm seeing more and more AR's without them, when I built my 6 years ago they seemed reasonable new.

AR Upper/Lower Set

My son is looking to do his first AR assembly.

Any suggestions on a reasonable stripped upper/lower set in the $200-$250 range. He is looking for a flat top, preferably without forward assist.

I used SunDevil and it is outstanding but it is over his high point on price.
