Re: Self-defense ammo affordable enough to practice with?

If you want to practice with your carry/defense ammo that’s your prerogative. That said, you don’t gain anything by practicing with it other than confirming POA/POI. Speaking from the LE side of the equation where we are not paying for the ammo we shoot (the department is), no LE agency that I am aw...

Re: Training By Nationally Known Instructors In The Midwest

Off the top of my head I can’t list anything for the rest of this year that are open enrollment. Everything I’m aware of is LE/MIL only. Firearms training up here is generally seasonal and we’re at the tail end of what would normally be the training season. That said, national level instructors have...

Re: Shotgun accuracy tables

Something not dissimilar to this. My original motive was a discussion on another board about at what range shotguns become worthless as self-defense or large game weapons. And whether for example a 30-inch barrel is going to be longer ranged than a 14-inch barrel. Shotguns being used for self defen...

Re: Magpul Magazines

I’ve been using Magpul mags in my duty pistols for the last two years, and this includes extensive training with high round counts. I have had excellent reliability from the Magpul mags.

Re: CCI Aluminum cases

Aluminum is not recommended to be reloaded. It doesn’t have the same elasticity as brass, and you run a substantial risk of case ruptures. They’re a lot like steel where they’re generally a one-and-done casing.

Re: ARX AMMUNITION

Long post, but Cliff’s Notes: They’re snake oil. Otherwise, read on.. The ARX is another iteration of the high velocity/light-for-caliber bullet concept that keeps making the rounds in the gun world. Every time a company produces it and it is actually tested, none of their claims can be verified usi...

Re: Why a vertical grip form instead of an angled one?

Vertical or near-vertical grip design puts the trigger finger into a natural position to pull the trigger directly rearward. This eliminates any vertical trigger pressure that could affect accuracy.

Re: Bump fire stocks

I saw this coming from the instant that the bump stocks came to market. It was the closest thing to making the heads of anti-gunners explode.

Re: Glock 17 mos co witness

Very interesting. I seen alot of YouTube vids, none of them stated any failures. I will look in to it. I do know ppl have said thr rmr would fail on pistol so that why they came out with the type 2 rmr. It very surprising to me that vortex viper snd venom would fail even on pistol. I heard good thi...

Re: Glock 17 mos co witness

I’ve seen multiple failures with the Vortex miniature red dot sights. This includes the Viper and Venom . It’s not a reliable optic yet. Numberous MRDS have a pattern of failures on pistol, and that includes the Vortex, Shield RMS and a couple other MRDS. As it stands, the Trijicon RMR and Leupold D...

Re: Long Range Endeavor: Tikka CTR or Tikka TAC both in 6.5Cr ?

I thought the 6.5 CM was designed more for the semi auto and .260 rem the better choice in a bolt gun? I think that it's a very minimal difference but that's the way I understand them. Also depends on if you reload or not, there's many more options in 6.5 CM than .260 in factory offerings. The 6.5C...

Re: Long Range Endeavor: Tikka CTR or Tikka TAC both in 6.5Cr ?

The TAC A1 and CTR are both punching half minute groups with factory match ammo in various training. Doc Spears of Forge Tactical LLC has been extolling the accuracy of the TAC A1. With respect to cartridge, I highly recommend your option of 6.5 CM. It’s one of the better cartridges out there for sh...

Re: Learning Firearms 2018 Training - Brainerd Area

It bears mentioning that our Patrol Rifle Marksman course is a scoped carbine course that is geared towards all students and is an open-enrollment course. It is a long range carbine course designed for people using LPVOs (low power variable optics) like the 1-4x, 1-5x, 1-6x and 1-8x scopes that are ...
