Re: buy/sell on this forum?

The cost to put an ad here and on Armslist is exactly $0, and they are both worth using. The audience is vastly larger on Armslist and in my observation if I list the same item here and there, 80% of the time it will sell there first and typically for a higher price. That said, I do prefer dealing w...

Re: 2016 Post 435 Service Rifle Clinic

This is a great event, well instructed by Mark and his volunteer cohorts. I've gone twice and both times it's been a good mix of new and experienced shooters so don't be intimidated if you've never tried before. If you spend most of your range time sitting behind a bench or stuck at the 100 yard ran...

Source for knife sheath or kit to make one?

Cool gift, mind sharing a photo of the knife? Curious what other smiths are selling these days.

UTG Pro SS hand guard problem

I have installed a number of the US made UTG slim forends and none demonstrated the issue you described... Did you torque the barrel nut using the included socket wrench via the slots specified in the instructions? If so, is there any play between barrel and receiver without the tube installed? Assu...

Re: What's the straight dope on lead ammo?

It depends on your perspective, if you are of the "if it saves just one life" (eagle or otherwise) the ban is worthwhile, like most chicken little causes (going with the theme tonight). If you consider it from a rational, scientific perspective it's unlikely that the amount of lead hunters...

.. good point, I think the presence of a brooder full of baby chicks sitting in my office is making me more 'the sky is falling' than normal. :)

Re: .223/5.56 ammo advice

For shooting - I am not a fan of the XM855. It just doesn't group as well as M193 for me. However, like I said, I've had good luck with the non-penetrator 62 gr. As others have stated, it will probably go up in value at some point. But again - not allowed at most ranges/competitions. As far as an a...

Re: Recommendation for good utility flashlight

Check out the LuxPro LP500's... should run about $15 a pop, super bright with an easy to use focus adjustment... and after throwing it 15 feet into the air repeatedly landing onto concrete, and playing fetch with my brother-in law's black lab on wet grass for a half hour mine still works perfectly e...

Re: Heading to the Homestead

I'm surprised lever action carbine / revolver combinations (.357 or .44 magnum in particular) aren't more popular for this application; one ammunition type to buy and store, the relative ease of reloading straight wall pistol cartridges, compatibility with black powder, and "self-cast bullet fr...

Re: House fire. Need advice on what to do with firearms.

Were the guns themselves exposed to significant heat? I'd be more worried about the effect of ruining the heat treatment of any steel components in the guns than I would damage from smoke and water which requires the same simple cleanup that you would perform after shooting corrosive ammunition. Ste...

Re: .223/5.56 ammo advice

Wolf Gold is also worth a look, it's brass cased/boxer primed and loaded to M193 spec (55 grain FMJ) imported from Taiwan... otherwise the Federal XM193 is a favorite. Prvi, Aguila, Wolf Gold and PMC also make good "hoard worthy" ammo at that 30-40 cents per round mark. I don't like the 62...

Re: Sig brace still worth it?

Wow, for $40 that's a whole lot more reasonable than the $100 or so the Braces are going for.. not to mention a lot lighter and less chunky in the trunk.
