Re: Quigly

I did that once on Zebra in Zimbabwe.

A bit expensive at $1500/animal, but legal.

Re: AK-47 for deer

I recall it being the rule many moons ago, but I'm not sure when it changed. I *think* about 14-15 years ago.

Re: Flight checking firearm

Also, DON'T get TSA locks for the gun case.

It's illegal.

You must be the only one with the key or combination. Read the TSA regs, its pretty clear. For my flight next week, Delta said no TSA locks, although in the past I did use them...

Re: Flight checking firearm

As long as its in the US, really the best thing to do is send it to yourself by US mail. You can mail long guns. One thing I have done is mail them to the outfitter's address (to yourself - self, C/O TX outfitters...) You can also have it delivered to general delivery at the local post office and pi...

Re: Testing new Long Range rifle.

The easiest way is to get one of the fancy oehler models, and set up screens at the muzzle and a couple hundred yards downrange and the computer figures it our for you. Another way is to have multiple chronos and measure velocity at different points and plug it in- this is what the Oehler does, but ...

Re: Uberti?????????????

The one I have is fine for the purpose I brought it for (cowboy action shooting on an intermittent basis...) but I have not put enough rounds through it to get an idea if it is durable. It does not look as durable as a ruger vaquero for example. The fit and finish is good. Accuracy is OK. Action is ...

Re: Abolish Slug Zone Label

My point is a set of punches isn't too expensive, and if all the requirement is that the gun be stamped for a shotgun, and it meets all other requirements (greater than .22 projectile- and centerfire priming) you could hunt deer with any deer rifle anywhere.

Re: Testing new Long Range rifle.

the 7mm WBY, 270 WBY and 257 WBY all share the same parent case, the 300WBY is larger so no, it isnt the same thing. The base case for all of these is the .300 H&H Magnum. Now that you said this, I went and looked it up. There is a little difference in case length, but they all have the same pa...

Re: Testing new Long Range rifle.

yes, but he said that the parent case was a 300 wby, not a 378 Wby.

Re: Abolish Slug Zone Label

A question for you guys... Just how do they decide what is a "shotgun" with regards to slug hunting? It isn't the classic "fires a cartridge with more than 1 projectile" because of slug use (and it would be easy to make a shot capsule for any gun...) It isn't the shell- because y...

Re: Testing new Long Range rifle.

Begging indulgence for my ignorance, but isn't a "300 weatherby necked down to .270" just a .270 weatherby mag?

Why reinvent the wheel?

Re: Movement to repeal silencer ban

As I recall, that happened a couple of years ago. The DNR has allowance for a set number of silencers for use in conducting cull shoots. The DNR is rarely on "our" side. They are a bureaucratic organization that looks out principally for the organization.

Re: Nosler Partition Performance

It's a TSX, all copper. 1 shot kill with a short death run. The TSX is my preferred bolt gun bullet for Africa. In general, if the bullet is over .338 in diameter, I use the TSX. The only real issue is that all copper bullets are a bit long for caliber, and it can cause issues with finding the right...

Re: Nosler Partition Performance

What you are seeing is pretty typical of the partition- especially when you hit bone. The front core separates, while the rear core stays intact. If you are worried about this, use a A-Frame. In general, excepting the proverbial Texas heart shot, it does what you want the bullet to do. I would not w...
