Re: Are the AR's King of the Varmint Rifles?

I agree with Cobb based on it depends on what you are shooting at. I will use a .25-06 or a .223 WSSM bolt gun for bigger animals that I expect to shoot 1-2 rounds a hunt on. Maybe I'm not very good, but I never get more than 1-2 cracks at Coyote on a trip. If I'm shooting pocket gophers or skunks/o...

Re: Thompson Encore

I have one in .223, .30-30, .45-70, and .30-06. The .223 and .30-30 are fun. The .45-70 is a handful, but manageable. I can shoot 20 rounds in a range session with it. I shot the .30-06 2 times (read rounds), and until I put a muzzle break on it, will not again...and that was 6 years ago. The torque...

Re: What happened to this case??

My guess is a stovepipe from a Springfield XD in a gun with spring issues. The square mark is too defined for a glock, and looks about the right size for a XD ejector. Also the firing pin mark is for a pin, not the rectangular glock striker, and it looks like it was smeared, either by a weak firing ...

Re: Best Gunsmith

It really depends on what you want done. Some stuff you can get done locally pretty well. Some, well, you could probably get it done well, but it will take a while and be brutally expensive. Ahlman's in Morristown are great at putting something back in factory type condition, and they do a great job...

Re: Hunting deer with .308 WIN

Pretty much any soft point will work on deer in a .308, as long as its not a varmint bullet (read less than 130 grains). I would stay away from the target ammo and the milsurp stuff. FMJ is not good for deer hunting, and although some specialist hunters will use match bullets, really there is no nee...

Real early season, with a GOOD dog, 28 Ga with #6 shot, Skeet 1/skeet 2 choke. Most of the time 20 Ga IC/Mod using #5, or 16 ga with Mod Late season or with a group of guys who refuse to only shoot in their lane- 12 Ga 3" with improved Modified and #4 Nickle plated shot. (the Fiocchi 2.75 1450 ...

Re: Reloading for the Win .243??

If you are going to use a .243, and its a new shooter, I would also recommend the Barnes bullets, either the TSX or the tipped version. The tipped would be a little more likely to expand. The 85 grainer would do the job with the Barnes, but I would consider over 100 grains in any cored bullet, such ...

Re: CHARGING CASES - Weighing individual charges.

Depends on what the round is for. If it is a hunting round, they are all electronically dispensed with a RCBS chargemaster and periodically checked with a beam balance. Especially if its a bottlenecked round for the encore or contender. If it is part of load workup, it is weighed on the chargemaster...

Re: AZ: ATF says no guns to legal medical marijuana patients

The point on the dueling studies was why I don't bother quoting them in this issue. The point was Edward kept quoting studies (and chapters of a textbook that he didn't quite vet) that are really, as we both have admitted, meaningless to this discussion. As to missing your point, I'm not sure how? T...

Re: AZ: ATF says no guns to legal medical marijuana patients

Legal alcohol use is a larger problem than illegal cannabis consumption. Sure, because the numbers are huge in comparison. I have met many alcoholics who admit their problems with it, and try and justify their behavior because its "legal" even though they know that excuse doesn't work lega...

Re: AZ: ATF says no guns to legal medical marijuana patients

No I didn't.

I think that any habitual user of MJ has no business using a firearm. Sorry. None.

I tried to explain why I feel that way, but on this one, I support the ATF.

Re: AZ: ATF says no guns to legal medical marijuana patients

In principle I have no problem with someone making their own decision as to "what substance" they wish to put in their body. The problem is that when your substance use affects others. We as a society have decided that rare, intermittent use may not fall to the level of infringing on someo...

Re: Shooting Muzzleloader Projectiles Out of a Revolver?

The only polymer tipped bullets that are in the manuals for revolver use that I have seen are the Hornady FTX's and the loads universally tell you to trim the case to different lengths. Unless you can get a manufacturer name from Midway, and contact the manufacturer and get the OK, I would not do it...

Re: I-394 shut down in Minnetonka after shots reported

Oh and by law, any time the death is not natural and expected, there is an autopsy (by law- so the coroner can give the cause of death, so they can state it was a homicide). The cause of death and contributing factors on the cause of death form are public knowledge. I don't think autopsy results are...
