Re: 45 ACP

I haven’t had any issues with LSWC ammo, but then I have never tried it in an older gun. I have a vet’s WWII 1911. Maybe Cobb and I should get together and try his and my guns with various ammo. USGI 1911 Colt series 80 gold cup Wilson combat high grade from the 90’s Para ordinance early P14-45 Kimb...

Re: Ballistics app Strelok Banned

I guess I don’t get the ban.

The app/program are there and the Russians have it.

It’s not removing the app from availability in the Ukrainian war.

At best, it’s stopping the author from getting some minimal income from US users.

Seems fundamentally ineffective as a sanction.

Re: 45 ACP

The ammo manufacturers have improved things as well. I had a great deal of trouble decades ago getting the Speer 200 gr JHP (aka the flying ashtray) feeding in most of my 1911’s. I’ve had no issues with the new federal hydrashoks or Winchester ranger ammo in the last 10 or so years. Both improved bu...

Re: Minnesota reports 38% drop in new gun permits

What will be interesting is to see if the increased holders renew or not.

It looks like they had about 10k increase compared to 5 years before. New vs. renewal.

Re: Seized machine gun headed to Camp Ripley museum

If it was DEWATed, it isn’t a machine gun anymore. Part kits are legal to own. A mock up with a nonfunctional side plate is legal. Not sure why a gun that is no longer a gun needs to be stamped. Some huge holes in the story here- is it capable of being repaired and thus not really inoperable? Or is ...

Re: 45 ACP

For all the talk about recoil, a GI type 1911 .45 doesn’t really have much, more it just moves your hand around a bit. Going to the powderpuff loads, they are accurate and easy to shoot. But be careful with the really fast powders and the .45, as it’s not hard to double charge the .45, and get a bad...

Re: Family of 12-year-old shot, killed in stolen vehicle speaks

Sounds to me like the people who should be sued are the parents of the 12 year old, who didn't teach him not to steal cars.

The family is mad because they can't figure out who to sue?

Re: Places to shoot steel-cased/bimetal ammo around TC metro?

One thing to be a bit more explicit on- Steel or nonbrass cases are one thing. Bimetallic (read steel) bullets are another. I don’t know of anyone who approves of folks shooting at their steel targets with any sort of steel/iron jacketed bullets. It ruins the target and is also a fire risk from spar...

Re: CamelBaks- your opinions?

It’s an option. It doesn’t replace a canteen or water bottle on a true wilderness expedition because you need to be able to treat the water somehow. I have found they don’t clean very well, but the price to replace the bladder isn’t that horrible. If you are either doing something away from civiliza...

Re: Feds finalize tighter regulations on gun stabilizing braces

IANAL The permit is for carry of a handgun. An AR pistol is legally a handgun. So an AR pistol is legal in the car as a CCW because it’s a handgun. Kind of hard to conceal, but legal. Similarly you can use either a shotgun or handgun to hunt deer in the southern zone- my only reason to get an AR pis...

Re: MRI dangers

Sounds like a Darwin nominee to me.

Just because you are pro gun doesn’t automatically make you intelligent.

Sounds like an entitled lawyer… rules didn’t apply to him.

Too bad magnetism didn’t respect his authority.

Re: Are they really that dumb

There are a lot of people who subscribe to the idea that you have to do something even if it makes no change, just to show you care.

Aka virtue signaling.

Re: Red Dot in 28ga

Depends. You could load a light enough charge with red dot that it would be safe, pressure wise. The shotgun recipes that are published meet 3 criteria; safety, fit, and performance. Lots of loads can be ok pressure wise, but don’t fit well in the hull, and the performance mismatch makes it a poor c...
