Re: Poll: Curbing gun violence is more import than gun rights

Polling isn’t science. It’s statistics.

Re: Walz signs ‘red flag’ orders, universal background checks

You seem to be implying that this will help with suicide (whether or not that really is violence is an open question). After working with mental health, you seem to think that it will make a difference there. Maybe. But I doubt much of one. A suicide uses the means at hand. If they are determined en...

Re: Expanding gun rights in republican led states

Depends on the state.

Suicide is death by your own action. Autoerotic asphyxiation is death by your own act. It may not be deliberate, but you intended to cut blood flow to your brain.

Often they claim accidental to spare the family, but it’s a big deal re insurance.

Re: Expanding gun rights in republican led states

From a pathological point of view, autoerotic asphyxiation is not an uncommon form of suicide.

See David Caradine as an example.

Re: Expanding gun rights in republican led states

GIGO.

The journal of urban health is a nonissue in my field.

(Medicine).

The reason there is so little public health gun research now is because the CDC and NIH got caught making up their research to get a pro gun control result.

Re: Red State support for "Assault Weapons" bans?

The point being made is that TX and OK are trying to infringe on the exercise of free speech between the doctor and the patient. TX wants to have anyone who does an EAB on a woman, even if it is not in TX, as long as the woman is a TX resident, to be legally liable in TX. MN just passed a law saying...

Re: Red State support for "Assault Weapons" bans?

As to the gun injury thing reducing the numbers… statistically, we are at a nadir of violent crime and accidental shootings are at all time lows… so why the push for more restrictions?

Re: Prevent gun violence? Treat it as a public health issue.

Being in the medical field, the last thing you want is it being treated like public health. Suffice it to say, it becomes controlled by a group of politically activist academics who are not allowed to be questioned using flawed statistics to make poorly supported claims. The CDC and NIH were banned ...

Re: Do the gun grabbers ever go against their narrative?

Well, I guess that’s a way to liven this place up! I don’t disagree that there are some reasonable democrats out there. But to imply that the divisiveness is mostly one sided is farcical. The democrats in the 50’s and 60’s were pretty willing to tolerate differences under their big tent. So was the ...

Re: Supreme Court's most gun-friendly justice is in big trouble.

Remember that impeachment is a political remedy. No need for guilt or rule of law. If they can get 50%+1 in the house to vote for charges, and a majority in the senate to impeach, you are gone. The whole abortion issue is contaminating the public discourse. The Dems want to get a SCOTUS majority in ...

Re: Hunting rufle trigger weight

Depends on what weather you will be using it in, what game you are hunting, style of hunting, and cartridge being used along with personal preferences. For big game, warm conditions I like 3.5-5# crisp. For cold conditions with gloves, I tend to want increased firing pin impact on the primer, so the...

Re: NRA Has Lost Over a Million Members Since Corruption Allegat

Faribault has a NRA requirement as well- due to buying range insurance through them, I think. My issue with all of the gun lobby groups is the payment of executives. The NRA is the rotten apple of the bunch, but they all probably pay their leadership well and give bonuses. LaPierre is a problem. If ...

Re: A question about initiatives and referendums

Recall is one thing, referendum and initiative another.

Frankly, my view on recall is driven by the absolute unwillingness of the political class to police itself.
