Re: Richard Marcinko Dies at 81

No way I’m giving The NY Times my email. It would be interesting to see what they said about him- his books were interesting, and I understand that he was court martialed for writing his first one. The last one I read got a little too weird for me- when he quit using a co author. His real life explo...

Re: Kim Potter, ex-Minnesota officer, found guilty of manslaught

Depends on jury instructions. I’m no lawyer but when the judge stated that they needed to consider other jurors beliefs in their deliberations, I would think it made a hole you can drive a ship through to appeal. On the face of it though- if you shoot someone, it is reasonable to expect great bodily...

Re: Generals advocate war game scenarios vs. The Citizens

And the military folks take an oath to uphold the constitution of the United States.

The 2nd amendment reads pretty clearly… apparently only once you get to law school does it all the sudden mean “it’s ok to take their guns.”

Re: Generals advocate war game scenarios vs. The Citizens

War gaming unrealistic situations is what a general staff does. I have no issues with them planning for various contingencies. On the other hand, actual field exercises cost money and can get troops hurt. Those should stick with likely threats that the military can face. Heck, if we had better plans...

Re: Hefty black bear spotted near Voyageurs National Park

His ears are pretty big compared to his head.

He’s fat, but not really big it looks like to me.

That’s no 3-400 pound black bear.

Re: 6.5 Grendel Primer Condition?

I agree they look ok.

There are an accumulation of signs to say overpressure.

Your case heads and primers are 2 and both look acceptable.

Velocity, extraction, case expansion (at the case base area), and function are others.

Re: FTF on 458 Socom AR

The first place to go would be the manufacturer of the upper then, especially if it’s factory ammo. Take pics of everything, especially of the malfunctions. If everything is factory, it should work- with flat meplat big bore bolt guns, the usual suspect is the feed rails. The flat meplat bullets mad...

Re: FTF on 458 Socom AR

Yes, flat profile bullets can cause problems with feeding.

Are these factory rounds or handloads?

Factory rifle or home build?

Factory magazines for the cartridge?

If handloads, changing COAL would be my first step.

Re: 30 06 at 3023 yards

My math says 914+ feet hold over…

30.23” is 1 MOA.
233 MOA in scope, 100 MOA in wedge, 30 MOA in mount… 363 MOA x 30.23” (close enough) /12 to get feet.

Re: No pics from the opener yet????

Didn’t shoot anything.

Could have shot a 1.5 year old 6 pointer, but since I’m looking for a good buck (4+ years old…) I’m being picky.

Seeing a lot higher percentage of fawns than in the past, though.

Re: SCOTUS appears likely to void New York's gun permit law

I don’t even see insisting on “shall issue” but rather on having a definitive set of criteria set forth in law, rather than some official’s whim. Essentially everyone knows that NY’s gun laws are who you know, not need or some logical rationale (I’ve got relatives there). On Heller essentially said ...

Re: Cleaning a rusty barrel

Hydrochloric acid (muriatic) will get rid of the rust… and the rifling. It’s a strong acid. I’d use whatever chemical bore cleaner you usually use, and then as Erud mentioned, JB (I’ve never used flitz in a bore) to get what you can out. A .22 RF usually uses milder steel than centerfire guns. It do...

Re: Trying to decide which one to sell

The Glock probably has a higher percentage value on resale.

That would be one reason to choose to sell it over another.

Re: The Denver Accord

Sorry, #4 isn’t a right. A goal, maybe, but not a right. In reality, violence is a natural condition. While we have changed the world rather substantially with technology and constant effort as a society, it requires the willingness to use force to maintain it. While a gun is not natural, it’s also ...
