Re: RMR, FFIII, other????

... What is the downside to something like that over an MOS Glock type mount? Height over bore/co-witness. The MOS/CORE/RX/OSP/optic on slide generally will allow you to co-witness iron sights(although you would need high or suppressor sights). None of the non-reciprocating mounts get low enough. I...

Re: Firearms insurance

Not really answering the question, but to give perspective on cost. Historic Firearms/Eastern Insurance has the lowest rates with positive feedback I have found: https://www.easterninsurance.com/insurance-quotes/personal-insurance/historic-firearms Their standard rate as of 8/31/16 was ....

Re: J frame/revolver experts - lubrication

Hi, I've got a 637 that I'm comfortable cleaning externally but I had encountered some sticky trigger issues after about two years of daily pocket carry. I've disassembled the firearm (removed grip, crane, cylinder) and have blasted it with Gunscrubber cleaner and scrubbed the parts with a brush. D...

Re: Mobile shooting gallery

Before my time there were travelling carnival type shooting galleries that would go from place to place. Some of the Cowboy Action guys are getting some of the old ones running again. Here's a link that may be what you are looking for: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/outdoor-sports-recrea...

Re: Emergency use of wrong caliber

The other point which is being missed here is that everybody assumes that it takes a REAL idiot to take a 9mm round and chamber it in a 40, despite the fact that multiple people have found cases shot with a 9mm rim and a 40 caliber case mouth. This mistake, however, is NOT what actually happens. I ...

Re: Concerns with firearm purchase

crbutler wrote:I can see the hassle to the ATF.

I'm seeing a lot of gun store policies are arising out of ATF not wanting to be hassled. They simply suggest, or strongly encourage, or threaten, or whatever that things are done a certain way thereby moving their job to the vendor.

Re: Bass Pro Shop buying Cabela's

$5.5B.....Wow. Google news said 4.5 billion. But its a merger or sale? News said sale, cabelas news letter said merger. Both sell over priced everything. I miss sportsmans warehouse! If your buying it's a sale, if you're being bought it's a merger, regardless of what the actual details(sale as I un...

Re: Advise on first handgun purchase

IMO, a carry gun should be different from a home defense gun (size, weight, capacity, rail, etc)...<and other stuff that's spot on> You don't need to conceal a HD gun, so it should be a larger capacity and long sight radius. Being larger it will also be easier to shoot. There are a couple of ...

Re: St. Cloud Mall stabbing

The article released this morning seems to have the most accurate account: http://www.sctimes.com/story/news/local/2016/09/17/reports-several-hurt-crossroads-center-incident/90607870/ What caught my attention is this mentality from the article: "I saw this security guard sprinting d...

Re: Cabela's $100 Gift Card For Only $85! - FREE Mail Delivery

Especially tempting now that Cabela's is offering 10% off Firearms and Ammo until 10/2: http://www.cabelas.com/custserv/custserv.jsp?pageName=16STALKUP Combine with your favorite web based referral site(I use ActiveJunky which fluctuates but right now is 10% off everything but firear...

Re: 31st state

I can't tell when the article was written, but they are using 2013 data, 2016 data is available here: https://www.atf.gov/resource-center/docs/2016-firearms-commerce-united-states/download And as of 02/16 lists us with 63,999 NFA registered devices(page 15) - which includes silencers(not...

Re: Is it Time to Stock Up?

10 to 20 magazines per gun? I think that's excessive. I like magazine-loaders, heck of a lot cheaper than 10-20 mags. I seem to have an affinity for guns with expensive mags, for the price of 10-20 mags I could have another gun. I get supply and demand, but it really irks me when I go to buy anothe...

Re: 10/22 optics help for precision target shooting

If it's just for target shooting I would go with a fixed high magnification. Weaver T-Series is popular and I've had good luck with Sightron in the past that also makes an offering in their SII line. Reticles are really personal preference and partially determined by what targets you will be shootin...
