With reduced powder loads in my 45-70. I use a measured amount of UNsalted corn meal over the powder. thus when the 405 gr lead bullet is seated I have a slightly compressed load. This solves the positional powder detonation problem. My shooting buddies call these loads "Grannies Biscuits"...
It was hunters choice on our hunting land this year. I only hunted 3 days. Saw a lot of young deer but I passed on all of them. I hunt in area 178 and the deer are just starting to make a comeback so if it didn't have a nice rack I didn't want to shoot it. I think they should have left it bucks only...
Thanks for the replies. My reloading data for 2400 in the 45-70 is from the powder manufacturer. For a 300 gr bullet they list 25 gr for the old trapdoors and 30 gr for modern arms. I've been doing a lot of searches on this topic recently and found that quite a few people use 2400 for 300 gr bullets...
I have a couple of 45-70's, rifle and revolver. I have a bunch of empty brass, #210 rifle primers and some Speer 300 gr .458 JHP as well as several pounds of 2400 powder that I'd like to use up. I just bought a new set of RCBS dies. Several of my reloading manuals list a charge of 30 gr of 2400 with...
Welcome back! We lived in Fall River, MA in 1958 and left in the Fall of 1959. MA wasn't quite as left wing back then but still a little strange to a person from the midwest.. I was in the Navy at the time otherwise I'd never choose to live out east. Even then I couldn't wait to leave. Our oldest bo...
I noticed the local media didn't spend a lot of time covering the event. Channel 11 gave it about 30 seconds at 6:00 PM, nothing at all at 5:00 PM when I tuned in to see what they had to say. FOX 9 had to show some anti's with signs and when they talked about assault weapons they ran a clip of someo...
This is my mouse gun. It's not hard to shoot even though it's small because it's heavy. Quite accurate with 180 grain hollowpoints. The weight that tames the recoil makes it kind of heavy in the pocket but OK with jeans. Six shots of .40 from a pocket gun is hard to beat. I know a Glock holds more r...
We have our own private land. For several years it was "Intensive" allowing 5 deer even though there didn't seem to be that many deer. Two years ago it changed to "Hunters choice", last year "Bucks only" and the same this year. We are not over run with meat hunters or t...
I was an early member. I still read from time to time but I don't post much anymore. Same questions, same answers, ego fights. Gets old. I too miss the old gang. We were the ones that got our permits in 2003 and banded together to talk about guns and carrying them in a liberal state like MN.
I bought a new one around 1960. As I recall, I paid around $35 for it. I fired it a couple of times and traded it to a guy for a once fired Winchester 94 that was also made in 1960. For some reason he wanted that little gun to carry in his pocket. He had missed a deer with the 94 and decided it was ...
I remember last Fall, when I was buying the same ammo in stripper clips that included a new ammo box, at 36 cents per round, I was told I was paying too much.
I found this quite interesting. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/apr/14/gun-rights-leader-we-snookered-other-side-toomey-m/ A prominent gun-rights advocate claims his group’s staff was in the room during the drafting of the recently unveiled proposal to expand gun-purchase background checks ...
