This looks like the product of "Gutless field dressing". If you search on Youtube there are videos that describe this method of butchering. Seems very wasteful to me.
The latest that I heard from the group over on the Saubier.com forum is that new brass and ammo were supposed to be available towards the end of February but that has now been pushed out to middle of summer or late fall. Apparently they are having manufacturing problems with the cases.
