Re: Vetting Rimfire Ammo for the Savage MKII

...snip...Finally, was surprised to see how poorly Federal did. Not sure what the model of Premium Target you were shooting, I've had similar results with 711b, but 719 has been a good shooter. Additionally, AutoMatch has been a go-to for my 10/22, but it may be more optimized for semi-auto's....sn...

Vetting Rimfire Ammo for the Savage MKII

While I realize that threads like this are quite ubiquitous, I decided to chronicle my experiment for the benefit of folks considering purchasing a Savage MKII BTVS, though it details the methodology one can employ when determining what ammunition any rimfire rifle likes. Over the 4th of July weeken...

Re: The great people you meet

I've had the pleasure of meeting about half a dozen members from here so far. To a man, they struck me a good people. Some times, the "keyboard tigers" you see on here make you wonder. Just sayin'... ;)

Re: MN resident moving to Virginia

I grew up in Maryland, next door to VA. That far away from DC, folks were very comfortable with guns back when I lived out there. Even more so in WV. The bad news is that was 35 years ago.

Re: Winchester primer too small or primer pocket to big

Was it a .25 WSSM down to .223 therefore the folded neck due to sizing the case down? No. One of reasons i haven't gotten into the 25 WSSM, which is a phenomenal caliber and one of the reasons I got rid of my 300 WSSM, which likewise was a phenomenal caliber, which uses necked up 25 WSSM brass, was...

Re: Winchester primer too small or primer pocket to big

Oops, that was from my 300 WSSM wildcat. 300 Win Mag velocity in an AR15 platform, but due to length restrictions of an AR magazine, the heaviest practical bullet was 150gr. Tossed them at 3k fps. Talk about turning heads at the range when that AR15 barked! Doubly so since it had a Holland style muz...

Re: Good case trimming tool?

I have my share of the Lee units and the case lock studs have a million uses besides trimming. My go-to is an RCBS Trim-Pro. One under appreciated trimmer head you can get in a few of the more ubiquitous calibers also deburr the inside and outside in the same step. They take a little fiddling to get...

Re: Savage Replacement Barrels - need help

Jim is going to hook me up today :D 26" Shilen CM Varmint contour 30-06 in a 10" twist - Plus I'll probably pick up a few other goodies for the build. Sweet!!! Wasn't sure what he currently had in stock for Shilens, so I didn't recommend in that direction. Make sure you post a pict...

Re: Winchester primer too small or primer pocket to big

I have around half a bag of new Winchester 300 WSM brass that I was experimenting with trying to make 300 WSSM cases out of. Didn't work out no matter what I tried. You are welcome to them for $5.15 to cover a USPS Small Flat Rate box. If you are willing to drive to Golden Valley on a work day, you...

Re: Chamber length in Douglas Air Gauge .300 win mag

300's are often chambered with a leade that will accommodate heavy round nosed bullets, which use a lot of leade. My Browning came chambered that way, but it was not a custom build. No way I could get my 180gr TSX anywhere near the lands and still fit the cartridge in the magazine. I was however, ab...

Re: Savage Replacement Barrels - need help

Jim has new, Savage Factory 22" 30-06 barrels in stock for the unbelievable price of $85.00 if you don't want to wait.
He's a great guy to work with.

ETA: The contour is Sporter weight, which is not what I would consider a Target contour, but hey, the price is right.

Re: High school trap team deadline is March 1st

Our club hosted a team for Mound/Westonka ISD for the first time this past spring. It was such a success that they came to our Board meeting last night, presented us with an appreciation plaque and cemented a Fall League to start in early September.

These kids are our future.

Re: Case Warning! Ammoload 9mm cases

Simply Wow Sam. While I've reamed cases for outside the 9 dots rifle calibers, I've never seen a commercial one. I would be inclined to think in the direction of setback prevention as opposed to enhanced pressure tolerance. Of course, that is total speculation since that's the first time I ever hear...
