Re: Rifle Barrel Break-In??

Last summer at the National Matches I got to shoot and talk with Steve Satern of Satren Machining . I asked him his recommendation on barrel break in. He said, "Just shoot the #$&@ thing and it'll be broke in". I've done two barrel changes for customers who bought expensive Satern bar...

Re: Rifle Barrel Break-In??

I should do what the manufacturer recommends as long as A) They recommend something and B) It makes sense. Howa does not make sense. Before breaking in a barrel, I run JB compound liberally through it alternating between brush and patches. I clean the brush every time I go to the patches, with aeros...

Re: MWCA Gun Show March 16-17

I confess, I don't hit a lot of shows lately, but how long has the uptick in folks toting their wares for sale on their backs been going on? Looked like some futuristic dystopian Valley Forge around there, or casting call for an episode of Fallen Skies ;)

Re: The Good Old Days

I remember my youth, spending a month each summer on my grandparent's farm in West Virginia. They had a bounty on crows and I could trade 6 pairs of crow's feet for a box of Super-X 22 LR at the Texaco station down the road. I brought my Marlin Glenfield and one box of shells with me on Memorial Day...

Re: Cheek rest

I installed a Karsten cheek rest on mine. Works nice. http://www.stu-offroad.com/firearms/karsten/karsten-5.jpg That looks kind of odd to me. Shouldn't it be adjusted so that the end toward the butt is higher than the end toward the muzzle so that, on recoil, it doesn't push or slap...

Re: Parkerizig?

Got a couple Remington shotguns to refinish. Anybody got a cheap parkerizing idea? The hardest part is getting a rectangular tank without paying a king's ransom. You can buy bottles of concentrate with great instructions from Brownells. A thermometer or one of those IR laser readers from HF. That's...

Re: Stoeger Uplander and Condor. Opinions?

Saw a Condor O/U at the show today that showed marks from use and was still asking $399 IIRC. Could kick myself to this day for getting rid of both the set of 3200s and the set of Citories I owned back in my Trap & Skeet Shooting heyday. Still have my trusty 12ga 3" Remington 1100 and a pas...

Re: Cheek rest

What do people like to use for cheek rests on bolt action rifles? I want my cheek to be welded to this rifle when I am shooting. I am putting low rings, but I have never felt like I have had great cheek welds on regular scoped rifles. So what do people like? Thanks Aside from my two black rifle low...

Re: MWCA Gun Show March 16-17

Went there at 9 AM this morning with a coworker to help him find a decent Remington 742 or 7400 and no, that is not an oxymoron. We started around the concourse and wouldn't you know, about a third of the way around there was a 742, that as far as my lights and magnifying visor could tell, was in mi...

Re: Scope rings

Honestly, I am concerned about things like inserts just for the sake that they are one more thing to add and have the possibility to shift. Although this will primarily be a deer hunting rifle, I plan on trying to learn some long range shooting with it (not that I am going to shoot deer at any larg...

Re: Stoeger Uplander and Condor. Opinions?

A coworker and hunting companion has the 12ga basic Condor and he uses if for trap league. He's shot quite a few 25's with it. It had an issue with the firing pins and Stoeger sent him a new set which I installed for him. No trouble since. I was impressed with it considering the price he paid for it...

Re: WTB NIKON Tall Turrets

Sorry to keep you waiting so long. I found the box with the turrets in it and much to my surprise, the tall ones are actually the ones on my scope. The shorter ones are what were in the box. If it's any consolation, they are 1/8 MOA click marks, not 1/4, so I don't know if they would have wor...

Re: WTB NIKON Tall Turrets

I can't remember if the ones on I'm using on my 6-24x50 Monarch are the tall ones or the really tall ones. The ones I'm using are fine for my needs. I will check when I get home from work this afternoon and if they are the shorter of the two, I will let you know.

Re: 300BLK - 147gr milsurp load data, anyone?

My 7.62x40WT, 300 BLK's big brother, loves 20.5 gr W296 for 2250fps. Scaled down for the shorter 300 BLK, you could go 18.5 gr for 2080fps. As always, start 5% lower and work up to safe max.

[SPF] 50rd Lake City XM80 Ball (7.62x51)

2005 Headstamp. Sorted by weight. In a new MTM smokey gray range box. $50.00 Will meet FTF in West Metro, but if you need it shipped, you pay UPS Ground. Hate to sell it, but need to fund paying Gunbroker ripoff prices for a brick of Remington 7 1/2 primers. Hoot. SPF Actually traded them for...
