Re: Guide rod laser sights

Lasers definitely have their advantages, but on a handgun they are a bit more limited than on the carbine. Where they are very very good on a handgun is if you're in an LEO capacity and working a shield where you have a difficult time to use your sights. I do like a Crimson Trace on a snubby revolve...

Re: Ar15 mags

Pmags are my first choice. I bought a bunch of Gen2s for under $10 recently. Windowed look cool, but I don't think they are worth paying extra. No issues with Israeli IMI mags and they are cheap but kinda ugly. How many IMI magazines, how many rounds have been fired through them? I am very hesitant...

Re: Ar15 mags

The current Lancers are better than the first ones. The type of plastic material used made it very slippery to work with when wet, such as in the rain, blood, etc. The latest version has surface added to increase the ability to grip it. With that said, yeah, while it's neat to see through the magazi...

Re: Windham Weaponry Carbon Fiber AR-15

The lightweight advantages of the carbon fiber are offset by structural weaknesses of the carbon fiber. Lower receivers commonly break back at the rear takedown pin or around the receiver extension. Aluminum receivers are not that heavy that I would want to sacrifice their durability for a Bushmaste...

Re: Buffer weights for Huldra and BCM?

I've found in my BCM Midlength that it has run everything so far with a H buffer. However, my LMT Mk18 is more sensitive where H buffers work best with the full pressure loads, but a Standard buffer is fine with lower pressured loads like PMC and steel case. Mine stopped shortstroking with lowered t...

Re: .223/5.56 defensive ammo

But a human isn't a deer and the typical meth head is going to freak once he has a hole in his body that is bleeding and run. He isn't going to stick around. and ask for more, and I am not going to be anywhere near them at the time, if needed more shots will follow the first of they don't run. And ...

Re: .223/5.56 defensive ammo

Ballistic jell tests on the v-max I have seen usually have 5-6 inches of penetration and leave a nasty wound channel. I could see it stopping someone from shock if gut shot. The problem with that is how much time it takes to go into shock. If you're a victim being attacked by a threat, are you goin...

http://www.chuckhawks.com/ammo_by_anonymous.htm I have used this as my reference. Some of his sources he is basing everything on have been found to have had questionable research methods as well as results, and are not considered to be reliable information any longer (Sanow/Marshall). I am also not...

Re: .223/5.56 defensive ammo
Interested to hear your recommendation on appropriate SBR ammo for home defense where over penetration is a concern, meaning inside the dwelling. For discussion sake, lets say 11.5 1in7 twist.
I have a 10.5 M16/Mk18 sitting next to me in my home office, whic...

Re: .223/5.56 defensive ammo

It comes down to your budget and if you think you'll need a barrier blind cartridge or not. Barrier blind give improved penetration through, well, barriers, but also run the risk of penetrating more in structures and paying $1+ per shot. If you're looking at home defense, a 55 grain soft point will ...

Re: Reloading 10mm... what's yuour fancy?

I have a healthy respect for bear. While I only have Black Bear here, I've seen maulings, and I used to work an area that was very plentiful with bear and I live where . I'd see them all the time. I hit a young one with my squad one night, and the impact actually stopped my squad in its tracks. So I...

Re: Reloading 10mm... what's yuour fancy?

1032solutions , I understand perhaps the liability issue and quite honestly never gave it a thought . I'd like to mention one other thing about 'hot'. Every year I take 4 or 5 horses into the "Gospel Humps" of Idaho for a month and into Montana once in a while . While riding , your chance...
