Re: Ramsey County permit to purchase?

Thanks guys. Just don't want to be that guy who shows up at the FFL without his stuff together.

Been waiting over a year for Savage to (hopefully) have the bugs worked out of the A17. Here's hoping.

Ramsey County permit to purchase?

I'm just checking to see if I recall correctly the rules for Ramsey County, MN. I'm buying 2 long guns by mail order and want to make sure I have my ducks in a row so I don't have to scramble around. Guns are a shotgun and a Savage A17 autoloading rimfire. No ARs, no handguns. Am I correct in recall...

Re: Savage Axis .223 - magazine falls out when firing

Yes, that looks fine. The spring retainer I was referring to is on the right side, at the top of the magazine pictured.

When I broke my .223 Axis magazine, it broke right at the top where it's folded over and, of course, this is where it flexes ever time it's inserted.

Re: Best source for 5.56/.223 ammo

Understanding the 5.56 rounds can be higher pressure and higher velocity etc. No generalizations can be made about 5.56 compared to .223. Everything depends on who made them, using what powder, and the exact dimensions and specs of the other components used. Like every other rifle, yours will have ...

Re: Savage Axis .223 - magazine falls out when firing

I have an Axis in .223 as well. Two possibilities. 1. You're not pressing the magazine in hard enough. Turn the rifle over once, (chamber empty, of course) with mag empty and bolt open. Press the magazine in, rear first and then press the front of the mag in until you hear and see the magazine latch...

Re: GM has reloading supplies?!

It's nice to have another option for reloading supplies as things are not that great in the metro, but I suppose Gander is struggling with the same thing everyone else is struggling with: Lack of supply. I just don't understand why it's taking so long to get back on track with powder. Honestly, what...

Re: GM has reloading supplies?!

Ironic they are getting back into reloading supplies. Woodbury Gander Mtn cleared them out about 5 years ago. I suspect this is an attempt to bolster their street cred with every store trying to be a "firearms supercenter" now. Or maybe it came down to the fact that carrying more of less d...

Re: Movie: American Sniper

Don't know if that scene actually happened, but "normal" for most people is a different thing from "normal" for many who have been over there. I took that as the point, anyway. Another book I'd recommend is "No Easy Day". Interesting insight into what it takes to be a S...

Re: ISO local source for 223 brass

I too have looked for a local supply, but have been disappointed by the prices I've seen/been quoted. Top Brass has 1000 mixed 556/.223 for $60+shipping. I've been able to get similar or better prices for quantities of 1000+, makes it difficult to justify paying $80+ locally. I have not heard what t...

Re: Powder question

There isn't really good or bad in powders. Some work better than others for a given rifle. 8208 XBR has been terrific in .223 and .22-250 applications for me. One of my .223s in particular, loves it. It also meters well and is temprature stable, which very nice when out varmint shooting in July in t...

Re: Mail order guns. A tale of woe.

My best guess is that the original shipment consisted of 2 boxes....a box within a box, very common way to ship guns. Maybe somehow the end got damaged and popped open, out comes the inner box with NO ADDRESS OR OTHER MARKINGS and the the shipping company (stupidly) decides to deliver the outside e...

Re: Doctors Asking Parents about gun ownership

Doctors don't "report" anything in routine patient care. The only place that doctors have to put patient information is in the medical record...that's where all the information goes. They use it to deliver patient care. The extent to which other groups or entities have access to it or how...

Re: Mail order guns. A tale of woe.

Is 'good condition' meaning mostly unscathed or meaning in new condition? Yes, I would say so, but as for new condition, that is somewhat unknown. One end of the box was damaged and had been repaired with layers of tape. The bag the gun was in was not sealed, but I don't know if it actually would h...

Re: Mail order guns. A tale of woe.

In a bizarre twist of fate, I got a call yesterday afternoon. From the FFL where my AR was supposed to be delivered 4 days ago. There’s a package here for you. What the… I had heard nothing from the shipper or from the retailer, so if the “lost” AR had somehow been found, nobody told me about it. So...

Re: What should our standard military cartridge be?

Every cartridge is a compromise and after years of getting used to those compromises, the grass seems really, really green just over on the other side of that fence... Making a quasi-objective case for this or that cartridge having superior performance is where most people go off track. First, this ...
