Re: Lead Free

thanks again to all for continuing to offer valuable info including a physician's perspective. I guess the over-arching theme is we're moving our family to the deep forest for the clean air, clean water, and simple living, so I want to make sure I'm thoughtfully working toward that in every aspect o...

good to know @igofast, thanks. Some enterprising inventor will maybe solve those problems one day.

Re: Lead Free

Right. I was going off of other shooters' YouTube videos and articles, not any organization. Massad Ayoob's comments on indoor ranges, for example. Thanks again for your thoughts. The over-arching idea, whether for myself or anyone, is to be thoughtful, open minded, and willing to learn. When we dec...

Re: Lead Free

I feel compelled to add that after you have finished weeping for he fallen tree and have fashioned your bow and arrows from his once-mighty limbs, under no circumstances should these tools ever he used to injure or frighten any of Mother's gentle forest creatures. They should only be used against h...

Re: Lead Free

Isn't choice a grand thing? :) I'm not being deliberately contrarian - but you're presenting a false dichotomy under the guise of science and authority - and you're incorrect in some of your assumptions. I'm really not making any assumptions. I guess it's a thought experiment based on some research...

Re: Lead Free

alright - pretty much the mix of responses I expected :) bow and arrow indeed ;) Thanks to all who provided constructively to the conversation! Winchester Super Clean NT in Handgun and Rifle is the round I was referring to. I am betting there will be more entirely lead free (including primer) rounds...

Re: Lead Free

I also want to add I am happy to be schooled on this if I am somehow off-base. My concerns are: the particulate fumes immediately following firing, which I or my kids could inhale, the rest of which stays on our clothing or soaks into the ground, then the bullet itself which we know will eventually ...

Lead Free

OK guys, I'm hoping not to start a debate of any kind; political, environmental, or otherwise. I believe in liberty, but I also believe we need to be good stewards of the nature that surrounds us. So please consider my question in that spirit. I am betting this is a touchy subject for some. Because ...

Re: Heading to the Homestead

Another update: I picked up a Colt LE6920MPS-FDE as well as a Serpa OWB holster for the Glock 19 from @thunderjohn at Southwest Arms last night. Going to be doing carry classes as well as additional defensive-type training, hopefully some of which will include the older kids. No fancy lights or opti...

Re: Used market for 10/22?

thanks for all the great suggestions! I have been trolling armslist and I do see some popping up from time to time. I have been meaning to check out thunderjohn's shop so if I make it down there I may just grab a new one from him.

Re: New gun owner

I have spent most of my life in Minnesota, although I am new to the north shore. So if any one knows of some where I can go to shoot, up in the Two Harbors/Duluth area I would appreciate a point in the right direction. Hi! We have a forest homestead just North of Two Harbors, although we are still ...

Used market for 10/22?

Hi all, I am looking for a used 10/22 as I've heard some of the manufacturing quality used to be quite a bit better, but I don't see them on the used market very much. Does anyone have one you'd be willing to part with? We'd be using this for, well, all the things a 10/22 is useful for. But also I'd...

Re: Heading to the Homestead

hi all, quick update. Received PTP today so I stopped by DKMAGS to pick up the Glock 19. Also handled the Alex Pro Econo Carbine which he said they try to keep in stock. Seems very nice! Didn't look at 10/22's or ask about used ones although I meant to. I will keep poking around. @yuppiejr Thanks fo...

Re: Heading to the Homestead

Good suggestions here. I'd also recommend a security system with smoke and fire detection and a driveway sensor. I don't know how far in the country you are moving and how far away your nearest neighbor will be, but it is a great idea to get to know them and don't be afraid to go bearing gifts. You...
