Re: Pitted With Rust. How best to 'restore'?

[heavy sigh] OP here, so I'm trying to completely disassemble this stupid 94 and I can't quite figure out how to do it....its the Centenial version with the brass-colored receiver (which is really rusted and corroded near the barrel). I can't figure out how to get the lever to unhook from the bolt.....

Re: WTF?! Who’re the complete imbeciles emptying the shelves?

OP here.... I agree -and chuckled with some- at the rationale we all seem to have here. I was at Fleet when I saw that things were empty. And no, they haven't been all out for weeks, just recently, I'd say in the last week from talking to one of the stockers. And I appreciate Socerers response, but ...

WTF?! Who’re the complete imbeciles emptying the shelves?

I’ve never posted a “rant” on a forum before, so am maybe opening Pandora’s box in doing so. And in that same vein, I suspect it’s not the people who are on this forum. But- Who are the complete dumbasses that are snapping up every 45 and 9mm rounds off the shelves?! This IS NOT teotwawki! We are se...

Re: Pitted With Rust. How best to 'restore'?

So naval jelly won't harm the bluing? I'll check out the youtube vid suggested (am curious about the "boiling" concept). I've used a commercial rust remover that really ruined knives' finishes! So I'm scared to use anything off-the-shelf. I'll try and post before/during/after pics later. (...

Pitted With Rust. How best to 'restore'?

I bought a shotgun and a Win 94 from an estate and the owner had left them in a damp wet basement....the rust seems to have pitted the surface (if not deeper?) and I'm wondering how best to bring it back to somewhat of a more normal state (without grinding). I thought about using some Flitz and a so...

WANTED: Forend Wrench for Remington 870 12 gauge

I want to change out my forearm on my 870 and I need the 12ga wrench so I don't jack up the wood. It's a one time thing (maybe) so I don't want to drop $25 on a single use tube of steel! Got one I can buy for cheap or maybe borrow (for a cost of a beer of somethin?)

Re: Best sight alternative for NEF Handi in .45-70?

Thanks Smurfman! I'm only familiar with the older Williams ones (didn't Lyman make some?) I think Williams had the rear ghost ring and the front globe with inserts. I assume that's what you're talking about, in which case that's a great idea (unobtrusive, somewhat low profile, accurate) Am I right i...

Best sight alternative for NEF Handi in .45-70?

I have the best little brush gun ever, a Handi Rifle in .45/70. I love it, but my 50+ year old eyes aren't as accommodating with those leaf/bead combination anymore! I'm trying to figure out what alternative sights would keep it lightweight, low profile, and shock-proof (that cartridge likes to buck...

Best way to unfreeze a stuck hex head screw?

I have a Tikka TAC with the stock muzzle brake and plan on swapping out the stock brake to a better one. The hex head screw that holds it on is 100% FROZEN in! (Maybe the prior owner used Locktite?) Best way to unstick it? I tried JB penetrating oil, now may try heating up the brake(?) Any other tho...

Re: Just in case, for a bear encounter?

(OP here) Thanks guys, I like that chest rig! I’ve heard the horror stories of a sow with cubs and it makes me nervous to have a mere 357 and be caught between a mama bear and her cubs. I agree with a wheel gun thought- no ftf issues then.

Just in case, for a bear encounter?

First and foremost- I'm usually NEVER worried about running into bear in the woods and never carry as a precaution against such an encounter. But- I recently bought acreage over in WI and there's bear tracks everywhere! I was walking the land with my daughter the other day and -if it were just me, I...

What’s it worth? Dan Wesson 15-2

I have a Dan Wesson 15-2 sporting a 2” barrel and I have the 4” barrel as well (plus wrench, gauge, and original and Hogue grips) Gunbroker doesn’t have a “completed” sold section like eBay, so it’s hard to get a valuation on such a rig. And I know a thing is really worth what another is willing to ...
