Re: Plinking/Varmint Rifle: .22 mag or .17 HMR ?

I am thinking you are six of one half a dozen of the other with this question I thought as much, but wanted to see if there was an overwhelming census on one over the other. Seeing as I have a Single Six w/22mag cylinder, might just be easier to go that route and not crowd the cabinet with too many...

Plinking/Varmint Rifle: .22 mag or .17 HMR ?

I'm thinking of adding a rifle to the collection and take it out for plinking and occasional varmint control/camp rifle. I've read good things about the accuracy of the Marlin 22MN rifle. But the Ruger 77 in .17HMR is intriguing. Any thoughts on the pros and cons that would sway a decision? (I'm try...

Re: Plethora of 1,000 yard rifles.....Which one?

M1, thanks for the thought- true, the difference will likely be lost on me and my own capabilities. I suspect the difference in accuracy between the Tikka and RPR is negligible in my hands.

Plethora of 1,000 yard rifles.....Which one?

I noticed Cabela's has the Ruger Precision now at $1,149 (less than the $1,200 I paid for my 6.5 last summer). Seems to me that now Ruger, Savage, Mossberg, Tikka, Howa, etc are now all in board in producing these hybrid AR/bolt rifles. So it makes sense the prices are coming down. But here's the qu...

Re: Glock 35 (in a .40) 'stings' the hand- That normal?

Atomic- thanks for the advice- I'll take her out to the range again and really focus on any slop in my grip. My paws are pretty big, so maybe I should go to the widest back-strap for the gun. (?)

Re: Glock 35 (in a .40) 'stings' the hand- That normal?

.40 in a poly gun is a "snappy" combo according to many people, but it shouldn't be that bad for someone that otherwise shoots a 2" .357. If you're in the far east metro you could meet me at my range some time and put a couple rounds through my metal .40 to see if you think it's the ...

Re: What's it worth? (Tikka 595 in .223 with heavy barrel)

Aw, crap. I never went back to this thread......I got rid of the Tikka shortly after the post. That'll be my lesson to check my posts and update. (How does one now 'delete' a post?)

Glock 35 (in a .40) 'stings' the hand- That normal?

I've never owned a Glock (never liked the squared slide for some reason). But I broke down and picked up a 35 in a .40 last summer to see if there's something people love about these that I'm just not getting. Been to the range a number of times with it: I hate it! Maybe it's just a common .40 thing...

Re: Best polishing areas for 1911?

GREAT responses here- appreciate all the sage advice. Barrel/crown, lugs and trigger travel? Barrel- yep. Travel- yep. Lugs? Maybe I should start a new thread on "Why would lugs matter?" Swap out triggers? Even after I polished the rails and sides on this one? My plan IS to shoot bullseye ...

Re: Best polishing areas for 1911?

I’m not sure if you can make an $800 gun into a $1,400 gun. At a home work bench. Maybe if I spent another $600 in finishing work......! I ONLY use a tiny amount of Flitz and a soft cloth 'drum' on my Dremel when I use it on guns. NO grinding! I had a Rock Island that I wanted to make into a Gold C...

Re: Best polishing areas for 1911?

Update: pulled it all apart, but prior to that the hammer was pretty smooth, so left it alone. Just that dang trigger drag is driving me nuts! I polished the trigger side rails and lightly filed the frame rails/tracks for the trigger sides. Less gritty, but still there. (The Dremel went away -didn't...

Re: Best polishing areas for 1911?

Butler makes some excellent points, which I'll adhere to..... (no, getting a "rise" out the the group wasn't my intent- but more so a 'I don't know what I don't know' post) So from the replies, it sounds like the slide/frame is normal and I'll put the Dremel away.

Re: Best polishing areas for 1911?

Interesting.....described multiple times as "stringy". Doesn't seem like a lube at all if that's the characteristic.

Best polishing areas for 1911?

I'm working on my second 1911. My first was a Rock Island as a 'practice' round- polished the feed ramp, the trigger sear, the trigger slide sides, and disconnector. Seemed to work well- no malfunctions, and for the most part very smooth. Now I'm on my second- a Springfield Range Officer. The trigge...
