Re: Rem BDL in 7 rem mag-help me reduce the recoil a little.

These guys with there 7mm mag for deer must be the same running 22's on their SUV for off roading. lol, you talk as if the 7mm rem mag was some kind of monster cartridge. You think a 140gr bullet is too big for deer? I don't have the luxury of having a rifle for every different game animal I would ...

Re: Rem BDL in 7 rem mag

I use a 7mm Rem Mag in northwestern Minnesota. Best way to prevent excessive meat damage is to shoot them broadside. But ya I know that's not always possible. I use a Nosler 140 gr Ballistic Tip and RL 19. Very accurate in my Ruger M77. But I wouldn't attempt a Texas heart shot with that bullet. Eve...

Re: Northland Range, Roseau

I'd be curious to know as well. We have a deer hunting cabin about 40 miles west of there. We go up in mid-September to clean up and get ready for the hunting season. It would be nice to run over to the range and shoot at the longer distances than what I can do locally, but the dates/times of operat...

Re: Muzzleloaders: what's good or not? will i blow my face off?

I've been using Blackhorn 209 powder in my CVA Accura and really like it. During range sessions it really shines. You don't need to swab between shots. It cleans up with regular gun cleaning solution, not water. But you need to use magnum 209 primers (will not work with percussion caps) as it can be...

Re: Here we go

I have ordered an M1 Garand and two M1 Carbines from the CMP and have been pleased with rifles I received.

Here are some M1s at the CMP that are believed to be unissued. :)

Re: Exposing the wolf reintroduction to Yellowstone

If you notice my numbers are of timberwolves, In Mn these are cross of Grey/Timber which accounts for their size, Either way you slice it my numbers are accurate and I stand by my original post. So you are telling me that the Grey and Timber wolves are of a different species, or sub-species, or wha...

Re: Exposing the wolf reintroduction to Yellowstone

I smell agenda, half the animals shown to be killed by wolves in that movie were in fact killed by Mountain lions, cats are known for attacking to the rear quarters, watch any african lion. If you can convince me that the 3000 timber wolves in America across 9 states is responsible for heard elimin...

Re: Small Game Season

I have to wait until tomorrow to get out but I expect to have a pretty good start. I've been seeing a fair number of ruffed grouse the last couple times I scouted with the dogs but most seem to be older birds as they have no qualms about running as soon as the dogs lock up. I just wish the mud bat ...

Re: Fall Turkey Hunting

I have never tried this method, but I have read that if you can find a flock, run quickly into them to try to bust up the flock and get them to scatter. Some southern states allow use of dogs for this, but not MN. The birds will eventually try to all gather again. During this time you set up and use...

Re: CMP guys, please school me...

If you are looking for a club that is affiliated with the CMP, I highly recommend the Garand Collectors Association (http://www.thegca.org). For a measly $25 yearly membership fee, you get a great quarterly magazine too.

Re: Guns required in SD ! Whoo hoo

Obviously the simple solution is to allow ambulance drivers to check for medical insurance before throwing them in the back. (We can just leave them on the street if not.) That way the uninsured don't have any impact on the healthcare system. :D And interrogate bank accounts and make sure they don'...

Re: So I go into the kitchen for another glass of wine...

You really can't judge a deers age by it's antler size. That deer could be 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 years old or it could be 10. Carefully studying it's teeth is about the only way and even then it can be iffy. Especially if you can't get them to hold still while your looking...

I thought I saw somewhere that the test targets were shot at 50 yds. I could be wrong though..
