Re: Barnes reloading manual load data?

Found it on the Western Powder (Ramshot/Accurate) website! They have a reloading manual on PDF file that is quite extensive. Bullet: 40 gr Barnes Varminator Powder: Accurate 2520 Start at 34.6 gr (3673 fps) and max load is 38.5 gr (4174 fps) with max pressure of 61800 psi. I don't have any A2520 in ...

Re: Barnes reloading manual load data?

Answer from Barnes to my inquiry about the Varminator bullets: Hi Steven, The 40gr Varminator is a simple lead core jacketed bullet and we are suggesting load data from your favorite manual with equal weight jacketed bullets - starting low and working the charge up as is customary in the reloading p...

Re: Barnes reloading manual load data?

1:14 and 1:12 twists are the most common for these rifles. A 1:12 twist should be enough to stabilize a 50 grainer. My Remington 700 VS in .223 has that slow of a twist and shoots 50 gr v-maxes very very well. But the goal is light bullets at very high speeds for maximum splat up to 400 yards away

Re: Barnes reloading manual load data?

If you want to start with a low load and work your way up, you are welcome to borrow my chronograph for testing. The only rule I have is "you shoot it you bought it". A bit premature but much appreciated since I don't actually own a 22-250 rifle yet. I just bought a pile of virgin Winches...

Re: Barnes reloading manual load data?

John doesn't smell. I sniffed out the place today and checked the store copy of Barnes #4 manual. Hold on to your suspenders... There is no mention of the 40 gr Varminator in that snotrag either! I have 100 ct box of them because they were cheap at about $16 compared to my old standby (50 gr V-max)....

Re: Barnes reloading manual load data?

Afraid I have some bad news. I have the Barnes #3 manual, and nowhere in there does it refer to Varminator or Varmint Grenade bullets. Their website says it's been re-introduced, so the only manual that will have load data for it is the current Barnes manual #4, which is relatively new. The bottom ...

Barnes reloading manual load data?

Does anyone have a fairly recent Barnes reloading manual and would be willing to share some load data for the 40 gr Varminator in 22-250? I have H380, RL15 and Varget as potentially suitable propellants. Mostly interested in min and max loads. An estimation on the muzzle velocity is more than welcom...

Re: 220 swift brass

Thanks for that. I was at the Lakeville store this morning and no 220 swift. It's the place to be for all of you 454 casull lovers and the hordes of 9x23 fanatics. I just have my eye on a really nice 220 Swift rifle. It's a FN built Mauser action with a brand new McGowen barrel. It'd be way more sen...

Re: 220 swift brass

Not to pull your leg, but have you tried Fleet Farm?? In trying to stock up, they bought a lot of weird stuff that was sitting on the shelf because nobody else wanted it, including 9x23, 45 GAP, and 225 Winchester, so 220 Swift might not be out of the question. I'd call around first, but it's worth...

220 swift brass

I know it's a long shot (pun most definitely intended) but does anybody have an idea where I could get some new 220 Swift brass. I would like about 300 pieces of same head stamp but I suppose I'm interested in whatever I could get.

Re: Looking at O/U shotguns

Don't get too hung up on extractor vs ejector. I'm a trap shooter myself and it didn't take me too long to figure out how to make the shells eject into my hand. I watched a lot of footage of the 2008 Olympics to learn how the big boys (and girls, Cory Cogdell woof woof) do that and it's really not t...

Re: Looking at O/U shotguns

A $600 budget is low for an O/U. There are some offerings in that price range but they are heavy, clumsy, hard to break open and with poor fit and finish. Save your cash, find a way to double it and buy a nice 2nd hand Citori or something similar. Ammocraft in Hopkins has a new drop dead gorgeous Sm...

Re: 30mm scope ring for slug gun?

I don't own a slug gun but I use Burris XTRs on both my 30 mm scopes with no issues at all. Check out Optics Planet for the best price and selection. I know they have a version that is only 1/2 inch high. I'm sure you could spend 5x the money on Badger Ordinance but I don't see the point.

Re: OGC Questions

I was doing some load testing on the 100 yd range today and I'm mightily impressed with the work that was done. 4-5 range officers for about 3 shooters was a bit much but hey, I'm sure it got busier in the afternoon.
