Re: Dull sticky brass after wet tumbling (?)

Dumb question but did you add water to your wet tumble or just Dawn and Lemi Shine? Not a dumb question at all. But yes, I added about a half gallon of water. Last night I tumbled my already tumbled cases in just water. Afterwards I spun them in a separator and picked up a few cases. My fingers had...

Re: Dull sticky brass after wet tumbling (?)

Well, maybe a stupid question on my part...but did you rinse the brass in clean water to get the soap off? :? I occasionally use a wet tumbler, pins, lemishine, and dawn just as you describe. I find I need a clean water rinse or even a couple. That water is pretty dirty. um, no. [palm smack on fore...

Dull sticky brass after wet tumbling (?)

I'm new to reloading and at the post-punched-primers stage. (5.56 brass) I threw 100 into a vibration cleaner with walnut shells and I threw about 300 into a Thumblers tumbler with steel pins, Lemishine and about a teaspoon of Dawn (as was recommended to me). The walnut shells came out just okay aft...

Re: I'm back.....swagger tool: Stand Alone? Or Die?

I used an RCBS pocket swager for several years with good results. I also use a handheld crimp remover when a piece of brass sneaks by. Not long ago I set up an old C press with a pocket swager and it works well too. Maybe we'll enough that it will replace the RCBS as my primary tool. I'll keep the ...

Re: .30 cal okay to use for 6.5c reloading?

I never had the pleasure of 'meeting' Seismic Sam, but from reading these posts, I wish I had. I'd love to spend a night of reloading with him and walking thru this all. (And btw, I'm not offended that some guys here post stuff others might deem harsh, that's okay, I take it all in good humor.) And ...

I'm back.....swagger tool: Stand Alone? Or Die?

Maybe I should have reworded the title to Die or Stand-Alone. The way it reads is odd! Anyway.....I have a ton of LC brass and I think a swagger tool is in order (primers are hard to seat). So- is a stand-alone RCBS/Dillon tool the best way to go? Or is the Die swager method the best? It seems like ...

Re: .30 cal okay to use for 6.5c reloading?

H&H ok ok, message received loud and clear. (But seriously, there are sites out there that say they’re compatible) That’s why I -new to this- turn to you guys to set the record straight and to school me on these things!

.30 cal okay to use for 6.5c reloading?

I bought a bunch of reloading supplies and am now just putting it to use. In amongst all the stuff was an old Folgers coffee can -yes, the old metal can!- and in it were hundreds of these bullets. I plan on reloading .30 to shoot from my Garand, but also want to try my hand at reloading some 6.5 Cre...

Re: I'm back (total nube, I know) Die problem?

Ok, so I took out the die and made sure there was no brass in it. A paper clip runs smooth all the way around the interior with the exception of one tiny spot- it sticks there (?) Then I made sure the air hole is clear- it was. So I screwed it back into the press and tried it all again- took a lot o...

Re: I'm back (total nube, I know) Die problem?

Thanks XdED, I've read about the dreaded excess lube, and have seen casings damaged as a result. They usually look like dents on the shoulder, whereas this is crunching the case mouth (is that a case term?) in the pic, see how it really wants to cinch in the neck right at the opening? And I did run ...

Re: I'm back (total nube, I know) Die problem?

* I really want this to work, so should I just get another die set of three- one seating, one decapping and one sizing? Reloading should be 'fun' not a strength training event.

I'm back (total nube, I know) Die problem?

Ok, I know, I'm taking up a lot of time, but I'm learning more here than any book, etc. *Thanks btw on the tumbler cleaning answers) So I went to deprime some rounds last night and after 9-10, one jammed in the decapping/sizing die. So I drilled and tapped and screwed it out. I went back and with a ...

Re: Step 1, clean brass in tumbler (How?)

Rice in a vibrator, that's one I hadn't heard of. I might actually try it and see what it does. (I could have two going simultaneously!)
But I assume you deprime the rounds first, right?

Step 1, clean brass in tumbler (How?)

Thanks everyone on the Reloading bench ideas. Here's another crawl before I walk question- I have a Thumlers Tumbler B, Lemi, shine, stainless pins, and thousands of rounds of empty brass (5.56). So after I deprime some rounds, A- How many rounds is a good amount for the tumbler? 100? 200? xxx? B- Ab...
