Re: C&S 1911 Auto Safety Fast Shooting System

That seems to be the same system that has been on the Browning Hi-Power "HP-SFS" pistols for a few years.

Re: Outdoor IDPA is less than a month away

Thanks, Bob, for spelling out what new shooters need to do, or not to do. I'm the match director for Minnetonka Game and Fish Club IDPA this year. For MGFC IDPA, if you're new to IDPA and want to join us, you must contact me first. My email and additional info is at: http://www.mgfc-action-shooting....

Re: Barrel length, 4" vs 5" in a 1911

I shoot 1911's ranging from 3" (Para Ordnance P10, AKA Warthog) to 5" and have found that the inherent accuracy of the guns is virtually the same. Tho only real difference in net accuracy is the sight radius. If you are blessed with "younger" eyes, I don't think you will notice a...

Re: Gunstop break in.

A bit more info appeared in the local paper. http://mnsun.com/articles/2008/07/18/breaking_news/mt17guns.txt Burglars stole about 30 guns from a Minnetonka gun store in the early-morning hours of Monday, July 14 after a first attempt to break into the store failed hours earlier. Minnetonka Police Ch...

FS Alumacraft 17' Canoe - SOLD

For sale is an Alumacraft model QT17CL 17 foot canoe. I bought this canoe new in 1984 and used it for fishing, and it is in nearly new condition. As I recall, when I bought it I chose this one rather than the Grumman lightweight because this had a much stiffer hull for only a few pound weight additi...

Re: JP Rifles AR15 Trigger Springs

For pretravel adjustment, I've noticed that Brownells sells a "drop-in trigger adjuster" (their stock # 072000001) that replaces the grip attachment bolt. Inside this bolt is an adjustment screw that protrudes to provide a pretravel stop for the AR trigger. I haven't tried one, but I proba...

Re: Setup help............

Yes, plated bullets tend to be quite soft.
Yes, when seating and crimping in one step, having too much crimp could cause extra force on the bullet tip while seating. The crimp diameter you should be winding up with is .470" for .45 ACP.
I do prefer to seat and crimp in separate steps.

Re: Which press to buy?/?

A single stage press is a great starting point to learn the art of reloading. It's a lot easier to get the feel of each of the reloading steps when you're doing them one at a time. I reloaded with a RCBS Rockchucker for many years and bought a Dillon Square Deal B only when I couldn't keep up with t...

BTW, the cold blue seems to dissolve the brass, not just color it.

And before you try the copper solvent, you can try some ammonia. It's the key ingredient in most of the copper solvents anyway.

Re: Looking for someone to fabricate an extended thumb safety

I went with a Witness ambi safety on my CZ-75B several years ago, based on a similar comment from the gunsmith at CZ. The frame modification mentioned is because the detent system is different on the Witness. It uses a spring and plunger that needs a set of "Mickey Mouse ears" cutouts in t...

Re: significance given to "accuracy load"

Your "crimp" should measure 0.469-0.471" at the case mouth... I was told that I could do a thumb press to check the crimp. Should I be measuring? :? Always better to measure, in my opinion. Then you know it's right. If you need a decent dial caliper at a low price check out http://ww...

Re: Derringers

American Derringer has been making the 45-70 model M-4 "Alaskan" for years. You will hurt yourself if you use it incorrectly Wow. I think you will hurt yourself if you use it at all. That's bordering on the concept of the handheld Claymore. I'm real curious as to just how much recoil ther...

Re: significance given to "accuracy load"

The "accuracy load" may refer to the slow bullseye loads that never had to make a power factor. I have been reloading 45 ACP for quite a while with 200 LSWC and Titegroup. I was using Federal primers, but when they became hard to find I switched to Winchester with no measurable difference ...
