Re: 9mm Pet loads?

I've used titegroup with 147 grain bullets. I like it pretty well for heavy bullet loads, but as others said, it has a low loading density, and it would be easy to not notice a double charge. I started at 3.3 gr and worked it up to 3.4 grains in a Glock and an STI to make sure I had enough for makin...

Re: EFMJ ammo where no hollowpoint will go

I would agree that the expanding FMJ is better than ball ammo, assuming you have adequate penetration, and assuming you feel the accuracy is there. But I would have some real concerns about staking my life on a gun that is that finicky about ammo. I would never feel that comfortable with it as a car...

Re: First Shotgun Reloads.

Those crimps are way better than mine were for the first year or so I played with it.

I ordinarily do my hunting loads on a MEC, and the trap stuff on a ponsness warren.

As someone else said, shot prices make this something you do because you want to, not because it saves any money at all right now.

Re: The .50 caliber Desert Eagle: Why?

I have one, with the .44 conversion. As much as it pains me to say it, I haven't shot it in years. They are heavy, not the best trigger, not the most reliable guns I have shot. A .500 S&W or a .454 Casull is better for hunting. The S&W 329 SC in .44 Mag with 300 grain hard cast bullets is a ...

Re: UTAS UTS-15

The AR 15 style mag fed shotgun that they were talking about at SHOT, that I would buy, even though I have a tricked out Saiga. This, well I have no interest in it, or the Kel Tech. Multi tube magazined guns will just be too darn heavy and bulky, not to mention slow as molasses to reload once you ge...

Re: Anyone had a Primer go off in their press?

Occasionally the primer sticks to the decapping pin and gets reset into the case. You feel that the primer is not seating. What I did was mentally say wow this one is not going in we... BANG. I have crushed way more primers than I want to count by doing the same thing. After the one went, I back thi...

Re: Anyone had a Primer go off in their press?

For an answer, yes, once. It was when I was in a hurry and forced things. Made a hell of a ruckus and scared the you know what out of the dog. I knew what happened when I did it and why. I just didn't apply common sense while doing things, and my ears rang more than usual for a week. Could have been...

Re: 200gr .40 S&W info???

In my opinion, heavy bullets in a .40 are kind of an advanced reloading project. You need to use faster powders, there is lots of case space left after you charge them, and you are using small amounts of powder. They tend to be touchy as far as correct OAL to feed also. Most of what I did with them ...

Re: Adventures with lead

My experience is that excessive belling and the crimping just gives you shorter case life, not that it will cause much trouble with the reloading process. You already touched on the fact that trying to seat and crimp at the same time are not all that compatible with some lead bullets. If your second...

Re: 2011 IDPA World Shoot Ammo By The Numbers

Interesting. Much higher factory ammo percentages than I would have thought. The USPSA nationals do this breakdown each year also, and there the reloading percentages are a lot higher. My suspicion is that to some extent you are seeing the effect of foreign competitors here. 9mm loads can be done re...

Re: The unwashed "crowd" masses in Minneapolis...

It is one's right to protest.

However, if you wish to effect change, it usually helps if you don't offend most people while doing so.

I usually don't do too well there, so me protesting is pretty pointless.

Re: What is your Lube and Size Routine?

For me, I use Imperial on anything I load in a single stage press. Works great, and I am not after speed here. I will use either dillon or hornady one shot on the stuff in a progressive machine. I'm pretty lazy about it and just dump the cases in the case feeder bowl, spray some on, agitate by hand ...

Re: New NRA member

Thanks for joining. Usually the NRA is pretty good about listening to its members as far as this stuff goes. I asked them to take me off the calling list, and said that I didn't want any nonessential mailings. I have not (knock on wood) gotten anything from them in the way of junk mail in over 15 ye...

Re: Manufacture replacing handgun question

I cannot say for sure how many rounds it had before breaking. Well over 5000 rounds of 3.5" (maybe as many as 10K) and over 15000 shooting trap loads. Benelli stepped up and did this despite the gun being a H&K marked gun. This was the second shotgun I owned, and I hunted pretty much everyt...

Re: Manufacture replacing handgun question

You've had to have replacements from all these companies? Yea right. OK, I didn't get the replacement win model 70 Coyote .223 WSSM that had the improperly applied chrome barrel liner and they replaced the whole gun through Ahlman's. ( was a manufacturer's recall) Ok, I didn't get the replacement R...
