Re: Medicaid money going to 'Violence Preventor' groups

While community action gun violence stuff is goofy for medicaid/medicare, I would think it actually fits in to those with a personal history of violence or anger issues.

Counseling can help those folks… and it’s for a specific diagnosis.

Re: FN 5.7x28

It is a bottle necked rifle cartridge… The polymer coating does look ugly as it comes off, but it really doesn’t interfere with the reloading process. My issues were twofold. The priming can be touchy because it’s such a small case. Given I have multiple guns, I have to remember to either push the s...

Re: FN 5.7x28

If you are talking hitting something, I would think 250 is right with a decent rifle (the PS90 has a mushy heavy bull pup trigger). However, I wouldn’t use it even on varmints past 150. I was unimpressed by it on a feral at 100. From a military point of view, it’s actually pretty versatile. It’s jus...

Re: Should I get a .41 Magnum?

I’ve read in an old reloading manual, the .41 is “less than useless”. :) That said, I had a Ruger Redhawk in .41 in the late 90s. Great gun, and lots of fun. But back then ammo was 60 cents a round and I got tired of paying that as I didn’t reload at the time. What manual is that? Its essentially i...

Re: FN 5.7x28

What do you want to know? I have a PS90 and a FN pistol in it. They do make LE/military AP rounds for it. In the PDW format, its essentially a .22 hornet. A 150-ish varmint gun, but does not give the usual dramatic varmint effects except on close range crows. With the vmax type bullets, its more eff...

Looks more like for a mosin-nagant. The sling is typical of that.

Re: Hard-to-eradicate ‘super pigs’ in Canada is threatening US

And allowing folks to shoot pigs. The comment on it being harder if folks are hunting is a canard. The other point is that unless you’re willing to accept bykill (poison) you will be unable to eradicate them. Control? Depends on what you mean by control. Note that in Europe they control these “super...

Re: Hard-to-eradicate ‘super pigs’ in Canada is threatening US

Property rights. Some folks refuse access and the pigs have a refuge. The hunting of pigs makes a lot of folks big money in TX. Those folks don’t want them eliminated. When’s the last time you hunted there? I was there last year. Note that the “option” is paid government professional hunters using s...

Re: Hard-to-eradicate ‘super pigs’ in Canada is threatening US

The biggest issue with eradication is the unwillingness to acknowledge that it is both unpopular and going to cause bykill issues. Hunting isn’t a 2-3% effectiveness situation. Hunting in the NA tradition (licenses, fair chase, property rights) may be that way, but use of NV equipment in a free fire...

Re: Betty McCollum and mass shooting ammunition

The army plant makes military ammo.

How much better would it have been if the shooter was using commercial hunting ammo… expanding bullets?

All they are after is making shooting more exclusive by raising prices.

Re: $99 Hi Point 9 mm Ahlman's Black Friday

While not something I’d have pride of ownership in, I did shoot one once. It fired, and hit an IPSC target reliably at 7 yards. I didn’t have any malfunctions in the magazine I shot. They are heavy, clunky, and not particularly accurate… but just folks with disposable income are not the only folks w...

Re: Geese, Geese, Geese

Effectively a metro gun is the same as a suppressor- additional space to change high pressure gas to lower pressure gas and reducing muzzle blast… it’s just absolutely impossible to conceal it.

Held one once. No way I was going to get on a bird with that from a layout blind!

Re: House, Senate Democrats Push Background Checks for Ammo

Because of course only someone planning a massacre would ever buy 500 rounds at a time.  I typically purchase 72,000 rounds of trap loads at time every year for the HS trap team Straw man purchase! Uh oh! Given how often you get delays with gun purchases, exponentially increase the che...

Anyone have a supresse shotgun?
minnesotatv

Yes, but it’s not nearly the panacea you seem to think.

They are not that quiet, and goose effective loads, especially for nontoxic shot, are quite supersonic.

If you can legally hunt them, the suppressed shotgun is a nonissue.

Re: Lewiston Maine mass shooting

Chicken/egg thing. If they think the guy is a threat to himself or others, he doesn’t meet criteria for discharge from the hospital. If he’s not a threat, how do you go to court and remove weapons? The down side is lack of hospital beds and staffing (and finances) and also it’s not against the law t...
