Re: Meet the Sheriff (Rick Stanek, Hennepin County)

I don't see much chance of the court orders being overturned unless the district judges want to change them (fat chance). The judges have very broad power to oversee their courts; in theory they can prohibit guns, cell phones, jelly doughnuts, or anything whatsoever they feel "disrupts" th...

Re: Large-bore shotguns: importation or BATFE restrictions?

My research into large shotguns has been hampered somewhat by inconsistent standards: in the USA a strict mathematical definition is used (gauge = number of balls of lead of bore size that weigh one pound), whereas in Britain apparently they use a nominal standard based on metric CIP tables. So the ...

Large-bore shotguns: importation or BATFE restrictions?

Generally, anything with a bore diameter of greater than 0.5" is an NFA item, the exception being shotguns. Although a.f.a.i.k. most jurisdictions in the USA prohibit hunting with anything larger than a 10-gauge, they don't explicitly ban anything larger. However I'm not sure if shells larger t...

Re: Email KSTP about Heather Martens gun violence fluff piece...

About suicide: the claim is that guns make impulse suicides more convenient and more successful. The example of gas ovens in Britain is sometimes cited: Britain relied on coal gas, which contained large amounts of carbon monoxide. Reportedly, in the early 1950s half of all suicides in Britain were b...

Cities object to state preemption of firearms ordinances.

http://www.startribune.com/local/238810551.html

While the League of Cities hasn’t taken a position on permit-to-carry laws, it did argue that cities should have the option to ban guns from city buildings, noting that most city leaders agree on keeping local control over such questions, Finn said.

Re: Finally - a little intelligence from Detroit's Police Chief

Michigan actually has pretty lenient firearms laws, plus Stand Your Ground. Maybe people could buy a foreclosed property there that's still in good shape and set up their own compound.

Re: a hammer?

When I first started out I understood single-action vs. double-action for revolvers, but it took me awhile to understand how they apply to semi-automatics. It's really pretty simple: does the hammer have to be cocked back before pulling the trigger does anything? If the answer is "yes", th...

Re: World's First 3D Printed Metal Gun Shoots 50 Rounds

Still, eventually we'll reach the point where banning guns is going to be like trying to ban bathtub gin. ;)

Re: New Year!

More toys would be nice, but what I really need the most is to be able to afford to live-fire more often, and to take tactical defense courses. If I could ever get off temp work and find a permanent position. :|

Re: "Desperado" on the loose in Mpls. 5 armed robberies this AM

What's the deal with SA's getting held up? The nearest one to my home used to be the one on Lowry and Upton N, and it got robbed so many times they finally closed it. Does Holiday get this ****?

Re: Mitch Berg: The Next Useless Wave of Gun Control in MN

Bring on the hood victims, good example of someone with a gun making a well placed(safe) shot could have taken a scumbag off the streets. Bring up the lack of parenting brought on by the liberal policies leading up to the gang bangers, lack of jobs... That won't happen. The left is not willing to a...

Re: Reports From the 4th, Minneapolis

I live in the "Cleveland" neighborhood of the 4th, and I'm a subscriber to the police reports. Fortunately it's a little quieter in my neighborhood but Penn Ave isn't that far away and the bus stops on Penn & 36 and Penn & Lowry seem to be perpetual trouble spots.
