Re: Reloading for .30-06, .243, .300 WSM

I should have given a bit more detail. I will be loading all three for both the range and for hunting whitetails. The .30-06 and the .300 are mine and the .243 is for my kind of recoil shy 14 yo daughter. I appreciate all the input. I have a lot to think about before I throw a powder charge and seat...

Re: Mounting scope bases to Savage model 11 .300 WSM

Do you mean where the barrel threads into the receiver? I just bedded a 1 piece base to a savage model 10 and noticed that you can see the barrel threads through the front most screw hole. Just something else to watch out for. My screws didn't seem to hit or anything though. Exactly. At first glanc...

Re: Reloading for .30-06, .243, .300 WSM

You must be thinking of the 300 win mag?? The short mags do not have a belt, they are rimless... Sorry. I read this wrong. "In field use, this round mirrors the performance of its older counterpart, the .300 Winchester Magnum, which is based on a modified .375 Holland & Holland belted magn...

Re: Reloading for .30-06, .243, .300 WSM

I would focus on finding one powder that works good in each rifle not one powder that works for all of them. The load manuals will tell you if there is a powder that will work. But you will have to go to the range to see if it works well or not. I use a lot of H414 in my 243 and 30-06. My 3 main ri...

Re: Reloading for .30-06, .243, .300 WSM

Thanks for the answer. I will look at those two and see of the performance in the three rifles might fit the bill for me. Might see if they will work in the .30-30 as well. I mainly have used 3031 in the .30-30 behind 150 and 170 grain pills. I understand about burn rates versus capacity versus bull...

Mounting scope bases to Savage model 11 .300 WSM

Mounted the front and rear bases to a new Savage Model 11 in .300 WSM.

I had to shorten the foremost screw a bit. The other three tapped holes are through holes. The fourth is over the barrel extension threaded into the reciever.

Is this normal? Almost looked like a tap had broken off in the hole.

Reloading for .30-06, .243, .300 WSM

Is there any one powder I can use in .243 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, and .300 Winchester Short Magnum?

I do not have dies for the .243 nor the .300 WSM yet.

I have dies but really haven't begun loading for the .30-06.

Luger ID

Is there anyone here with some knowledge of German Lugers? A friend has one he is curious about. He is not a gun guy. I believe the magazine is newer than the pistol. It has a date of 1938 on it along with the number 5416 in a couple of spots with 16 marked on many of the parts. Beneath the barrel i...

Re: Gander Mtn and ammo

I shop at Gander. If the price is too much I shop around. Funny how guys who hate a store so much still go in and shop. I do not understand the vitriol aimed at GM. If they were as bad as many claim there bad prices and bad customer service would drive them out of business. Instead they are expandin...

Re: Cheek rest

I installed a Karsten cheek rest on mine. Works nice. http://www.stu-offroad.com/firearms/karsten/karsten-5.jpg That looks kind of odd to me. Shouldn't it be adjusted so that the end toward the butt is higher than the end toward the muzzle so that, on recoil, it doesn't push or slap...

These are from my Weatherby Vanguard .30-06 from a couple of weeks ago. She is topped with a Redfield 3-9x40 variable. All with the same 100 yard zero. First one is Federal Fusion 165 grain at 100 yards. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v503/tcarlson99/Target0001.jpg Second is Feder...

Is she adverse to buying a gun cabinet or safe and storing them herself or is that not an option?
