Re: Varget ?

Always measure OAL at 2.800 and each round is verified with a caliper. Plan on sliding bolt forward with charging handle to insure no slamming.

Re: Varget ?

I did not crimp on these loads but you have me thinking on bullet set back. I put 5 rounds in the magazine. Only 1 of the 5 blew the primer but did notice flat primers on the rest. Could be the primer not tight as others when seating but doubt it as I insure they are the same with the rcbs hand prim...

Varget ?

Was shooting my reloads last week testing different powders (6). Was surprised that my AR10 handled the varget loads well to the point that even at max loads, no issues. But 2 other powders blew primers at max loads, IMR 4064 and IMR 8208 XBR. The max loads were Varget 44.0 gr, IMR4064 44.0 & 44...

No. Reloaded another batch yesterday and will pick up a few boxes of factory ammo to get ready to try again. Might bring my sled bed this time to rule out human error.

Re: Range disappointment after shooting reloads

Ah crap. I did have the barrel, not the hand guard, resting on the sand bags. So when doing the box test, I keep cross hairs on one point all the time while making adjustments and shooting to mimic a box (4 holes in 4 corners)?

Re: Range disappointment after shooting reloads

Scope failure. That did cross my mind. So, is there a test of some kind to determine it actually failed before contacting nikon and sending it in? Being on a AR with less recoil than a bolt, and the M-308 is designed for the AR 308 platform, would think this scope would be tough enough not to fail....

Re: Range disappointment after shooting reloads

can / did you keep your targets? posting them would be a real help. Did the wind pick up? Unfortunately no. Was so pissed I forgot to remove them. Wind did not pick up. I plan on reloading same batch again and trying again. If it happens again, will find someone who is well versed in AR10's that ha...

Re: Range disappointment after shooting reloads

I have a folding hand grip up front. That was resting on the sand bags (folded). I was zero'd before I began shooting the reloads verified with the commercial rounds. I made the mistake of chasing the rounds. I could possibly see barrel heat possibly doing this after a few hundred rounds but heck, a...

Re: Range disappointment after shooting reloads

I would be checking the gas block, barrel nut, anything that could be affecting/touching the barrel. Second, I would check the scope mounting. Make sure your rings are not resting on the radii leading to the saddle, objective etc. (rings should be about 1/8" away from any radius on the optic b...

Range disappointment after shooting reloads

Figure this goes in this section. Went to the range yesterday to test out 6 different powders reloads. 308 AR with 16 inch barrel. Everything was going fine until 2/3rds the way through. All of a sudden my shots were going all over the place. WTF. I stop, check to insure the scope didn't come lose. ...

Re: 8 pounders of Varget available

Gunstop has 700 and 800X in stock now according to there web site. I am searching for Varget if anyone knows who has some. Shot some today for the 1st time and like what I see. Been using IMR 4064 for my 308 loads, which for plinking 150 gr bullets is fine.
