Re: .45-70 Gov. for whitetail?

Nothing wrong with a .45-70 for close range, heavy cover deer. It makes a big hole going in and a big hole going out. In a lever gun it's a quick handling, quick shooting rifle. In heavy cover you don't want to track very far, and you want the trail to be well marked. The perfect brush gun. Stay wit...

Re: Discoloration on brand new ammunition

solidgun,

New from the factory, but how long was it sitting in their warehouse before it was shipped?

To be safe, you should send it to me for safe disposal. :)

(Alright, somebody was bound to say that. So I had to. One more thing off my bucket list.)

Re: any miracle shots out there?

25 years ago, deer hunting, dropped a flying bird @ 40 yds with a single shotgun slug.

For a variety of reasons, I'll never try that again. Amazing, but stupid.

Re: Bullet Seating Deapth Issues

Bullets vary in overall length, especially to the tips. Depending on your bullet, measuring to the tips, 5 thous really isn't that bad. Note that your bullet seater does not seat from the tip, rather from the ogive. Measuring from the tips is going to indicate more variance than you're really gettin...

Re: Rookie Reloaders!! Know your range brass!!

I've made the same mistake. Chambered a .308 round into a .338-06. Thankfully I had a "wait a minute" thought as I was getting set up for the next shot and noticed before I pulled the trigger. Not sure what would have happened, but lesson learned. One box of ammo on the bench at the time. ...

Re: Rookie Reloaders!! Know your range brass!!

I saw that picture, and said "Why does that picture look familiar?... Wait a minute, that's mine!" The internet is an amazing thing. FWIW those .45-70 cases had me quite concerned. I even cut a case in half looking for a thinning. I am told that this is common to the marlin .45-70s, as the...

Re: Anyone Reload 22 Hornet?

A few things: The hornet has a reputation for being "finicky" to load for. I use Lil' gun and pistol primers. I don't remember how much powder I used, but I went well into the realm of compressed loads and had no issues with being too hot. My rifle really likes the Hornady 40gr V-max bulle...

Re: Anti Carry Gun Show?

If the MWCA thinks that permit holders are a danger, that knowledge & logic would be of benefit to the anti gun/carry crowd... http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2194219/posts A police officer at an MWCA show already had a negligent discharge to the benefit of the anti-gun/carry crowd. As...

Re: Brass Growth

I grabbed a box of Hornady Superformance shells that I had shot this fall and measured all of the cases. They all measured from .0025 to .001 short of the ANSI minimum of 2.0487 for .30-06. I grabbed a box of unfired bullets of the same make and they measured the same which means there was little t...
