Re: Does anybody have a 460XVR?

I wonder if the erosion problems would be so bad if you loaded that in a carbine, say a reinforced 92 action or a 1894 Marlin, I think either the 500 or the 460 would be a giggle in those platforms, It's not exactly a .460 or .500 S&W but.... are you thinking of something along this line? :shoc...

Re: Are You Ambidextreye Like Me?

We teach a similar method in our firearms safety class only we tell the kids to hold up a finger at arms length and cover each eye one at a time. Only trouble is, I always see two fingers! The story of my life (sigh). I am left-eye dominant but not strongly so, so I have the same problem. I was sho...

Re: I can't send PM

Let's face it, I'm a moron. Anyway I tried to pm nyffman and I couldn't because there's no way for me to type in who it's going to. I can get subject and the message but nothing else. There is a box along the left side labeled "Send To". Type 'nyffman' into it and click either the "A...

That's what you get for teaching her how to shoot! ;) As you said, second-smoke is probably not a big concern, especially compared to "lead exposure".

Re: Invasion of Privacy - Don't say it never can happen.........

I'm not a smoker. It pisses me off greatly to have the government at any level decide to ban certain behavior or possession of certain substances. This situation, though, should be perfectly acceptable (and is, to me). It's an assertion of property rights and company prerogative. So (to risk a thre...

Re: Invasion of Privacy - Don't say it never can happen.........

My workplace gives you a benefit discount if you check the "non-smoking" box. Right now it is on your honor, so I don't know what would happen if you lied. We also get a discount for filling out a health assessment questionnaire. If the assessment exposes some "issues", you are a...

Re: Radios and hunting

What I am talking about is the squelch to signify that the person is done talking when they released the talk button. Kinda like saying "OVER" when you are done talking. I don't want the "OVER" squelch. It has been awhile since I looked through the manuals but I seem to recall t...

Re: The safe slug myth

In an old Guns and Ammo Video, called "Deadly Weapons", they shot all kinds of bullets (.22 - .50Browning) through brush and glass etc. and everything deflected. It's worth checking out if you can find a copy. Well... technically even a largish asteroid would deflect! It's a question of h...

Re: The 'nature' of nations' poverty

It is very standard around the world that the more corrupt the government the lower the standard of living for the average citizen. A World Bank study posits that the majority of a country's wealth is in the form of "Intangible Wealth," and that the most important piece of intangible weal...

Re: The safe slug myth

I recall reading an article years ago, where they were doing some casual field testing of slugs. They were shooting completely through a trailer house the long way, with slugs! I would think a rifle bullet may destabilize enough to not do that. Along the same lines, if a stay rifle bullet and a stra...

Re: Out of sight, out of mind.

Those born after 1975 are rapidly approaching 40 years old... Err....born in the 70s after 1975 usually means approaching 30. I didn't have to do the math. I read this and suddenly felt much older than I actually am. :) Whoops. I am going to plead the, " doing math before my morning coffee &qu...

Re: Out of sight, out of mind.

The problem is that the Vietnam war is history to many young people --something they don't remember at all. And to the not-so-young. Those born after 1975 are rapidly approaching 40 years old... For that matter, this year's high school seniors probably aren't old enough to remember Desert Storm... ...
