Re: Contact our Senators

Read what the man said. He voted for cloture, so it goes forward. It can still be amended. Notice that he did not say what else. No promises were made here. They never say how they will vote, because the specifics of the bill can change dramatically once it hits the floor. Have you ever written a s...

Re: 9mm high pressure signs for beginning reloaders

These are an example of light bullet/fast powder.

They look fine by me from the pictures.

Re: Had a succesful pheasant opener

I guess I got ridiculously lucky. I went out for the second waterfowl opener, and as I am heading out of the country had to take the boat in, so I quit really early. While tying down the boat, saw 2 roosters sitting in the weeds by our point. Grabbed one shell, put it in the gun in the boat, stepped...

Re: 9mm high pressure signs for beginning reloaders

They also make the push through dies in 9mm. Not quite sure why you would use them, as the 9 mm is a tapered case, so you would need to run it through another die to size and 9mm is cheap enough to just throw out the bad stuff. I will say that some of the dies made for progressive machines (namely D...

Re: Newb needs sighting help Rotating sight drum

The problem is that the sights are what was intended for the original gun (a SMG) and are what worked right for that. My HK 91 has those sights on it, and they actually work as designed there. They work great on the MP5, although are kinda slow. The diopters are not used when you shoot it as a pisto...

Re: 9mm high pressure signs for beginning reloaders

You are not really reading a case head here, either. You are looking at the bottom of the case head. Case heads are measured with a micrometer for expansion. Even so its kind of mystic. (in other words, it does not always hold.) The only way to know for sure what the pressure is is to use a strain g...

Re: Kimber rifles, how good are they compared to the prices?

If you want to start with the Rem 7 or 600 platform, there are a few at Ahlman's in Morristown that are on the block for cheap (less than $700) in their clearance area. Lighter guns that you could work from. Probably would be better for you to start looking for an abused used 700 if you are going th...

Re: Kimber rifles, how good are they compared to the prices?

You seem to be asking different things here. First off, in high end hunting rifles, $1500 is cheap. I think the Kimber is fine. The Kimber is a controlled round feed gun, which is a plus with bigger critters on the menu. I have 1 in .300 WSM, and it is a 1 MOA gun out to 300, probably longer, but I ...

Re: Doe tags are out

I managed to draw a doe tag after 4 years also. Got smart and applied for the muzzle loader season, seemed to make a difference for me. Hunt bucks until the last day, shoot a doe that day if necessary ( I see 20 or so does every day I'm out. Its pretty obvious the buck-doe ratio is out of whack were...

Re: Old primers & powder

If the powder does not have a bad odor to it, it likely has not decayed yet- so if you use the caveat of working it up, that should be fine. Primers that have been out in a MN "unheated garage" in a cardboard box for 20 years may still work, and if they do, they should be fine, but I will ...

Re: MN Waterfowl Opener

My opener was about what I expected- too many people on too little water, with not enough birds, then people started skybusting. Only managed 4 birds Saturday, and only found 2 of them...) I finally joined the rest of the world and spent some money on a mud boat, and because of that on sunday, I lim...

Re: worth it? SRM Model 1216 semi-auto 12 gauge

I've used a modified Saiga 12 for varmint (pigeon) killing. I would in no way call this hunting. This is a modified for open division (3 gun) with 12 or 20 round stick mags- as long as the mag well is tight, and you are using a shell with enough pressure to work the action, its absolutely reliable. ...
