Re: 1911-22

Check that new walmart on 65 and 117th as I have seen its inventory of most calibers a bit better than the other stores recently. Also stop into Capras on 65 and about 89th, which may have some even if at higher prices.

Good luck.

M1 Garand, ammo, etc.

Finally got myself an M1, but went with a 1942 Garand in purported excellent shape. (Don't have it in my hands yet but hopefully by week's end.) I need to do a lot of reading and research to figure out this new area and hopefully toy. Am excited to be starting something new that is gun related. Assu...

Re: Rebuilding a Rock island 1911?

Trying to fit things to a non-mil spec frame can create problems that you don't need in your first build. It is better to learn on a base unit that is mil spec, as you will have a better chance of success and being able to feel good about your hard work. I think the norinco 1911s are the cheapest mi...

Re: Rebuilding a Rock island 1911?

Buy a norinco from gunbroker for about the same price as that rock island and build upon it instead. The Norc will be to mil spec so you won't have to fight the extra problems that can come from cheap 1911s. The Norc is also built from much better materials so when you are done, you will have a grea...

Re: Metcalf: Guns & Ammo

His opinion is essentially that regulation is not necessarily infringement. Truth about Guns had a link with tons of negative comments about it earlier today. One of the comments indicated how to cancel G&A subscriptions. (Sorry i cant post link at moment.)

Re: Hydrophobic coatings...anyone use these?

I used it on my and my sons' hiking boots before a wet weekend of camping a few weeks back. I would never use it again. Left a heavy white glaze over everything on the boot. Ugly appearance. Nothing like the commercial where the light tan cowhide leather boots come out of the mud puddle looking like...

Re: 1911 .45 AMT Longballer Disasembly / Clean / Reass

Youtube is your friend when it comes to learning how to detail strip many common guns, including 1911s. Watch a few videos and then dig into it. The one thing to watch out for is when you reassemble. Do not -- under any circumstances -- allow yourself to scratch the side of the frame when you replac...

Re: Shots fired in Capitol (Washington)

One report said she was wounded. Also, someone may have ordered Capitol police to take all force necessary to stop the car after driver didn't stop blocks earlier. I'm not sure she even had a gun yet, but sounds like Capitol police fired. Time will tell. Eta: report now that driver tried to ram whit...

Re: No ATF with shutdown?

CNN was reporting last night that no gun permits would issue if the shutdown occurred. Was one of a list of things that would be purportedly put on hold. No explanation what it meant. I figured it was nics related but in light of this thread, who now knows. Probably just a mistake of reporting yet a...

Re: Carrying extra ammo for the 642

I haven't carried my 642 in a while, but I believe I have the safariland sipped loaders for it. They, in combination with the crinson trace grips on my gun, don't allow for easy line up of the extra rounds straight into the cylinders. The speedloader mars the top left side grip. Something to keep in...
