Re: Wanted dog sitter

We've used these guys in the past:

They are reasonably cheap compared to others we looked at and the dogs get exercised a few times a day. It's been a couple years, but I think you even have the option of letting your dog play with others.

Re: Need a Five Hundred Dollar Car (Minneapolis)

I have a 2000 Saturn SL in good condition. 5 speed, gets GREAT mileage. I'd let it go for $1,000. PM me for details.

Re: Bright Sights?

I bought a vial quite a few years ago. It works well. It is maybe a little brighter than model paint. It has held up well over the years. It goes on a bit thicker than model paint. The gun I used it on, an EAA witness, had a little dimple where the factory front sight dot paint was that just plain d...

mn_smokeater wrote:I may be wrong but if you was to say weld a front grip on it, would that make it a AOW and only 5 bucks to stamp it?

The AOW making tax is $200 but $5 to transfer. You could have an SOT make it into the AOW and then xfer it to you for $5.

Re: Pistol Overall Length

What defines a handgun is the stock. Handgun. (a) Any firearm which has a short stock and is designed to be held and fired by the use of a single hand; and (b) Any combination of parts from which a firearm described in paragraph (a) can be assembled. There is no restriction to barrel length. But if...

As of when? Got a link to their web site about this?

Re: Took the worng advice

I have not taken apart the firing pin yet but everything else, I wasn't sure if I would be able to get it back together but I will be looking into that as well. I have a mac so I will look into seeing what I can edit photos with. I just got it and haven't played with it too much. But I will post mo...

Re: Took the worng advice

Get another picture or two. Open them in Paint or another rudimentary photo editing program and draw some lines and circles showing exactly what you filed on. If you filed on the latch on the gun, you're probably SOL. If you filed on the gas tube itself, you should be able to replace that for just a...

Re: Took the worng advice

Can you post pics of the parts you modified? SKS's are pretty simple guns and we should be able to get you up and running. As to firing when you set it down, that sounds like more of a concern. Make sure the firing pin channel is clear of any grease and debris. Dissassemble the bolt completely to cl...

Re: Castle Nut Pliers

You can carefully tap it with a punch and mallet to get it tight again. I've done it and it works well. Properly installed, the set screw will not let it loosen. Using a punch that just fits the notches will not leave marks and won't slip, either.

Good luck!

Re: Building a Gun

The only thing I disagree with is the part of the ATF letter that says the maker must mark a receiver if the home-built gun is sold. That's what I'm calling BS on, since I've never seen anything in the law that supports that statement. Again, I'm not going to be a test case but it really chaps my h...

Re: Building a Gun

Thanks for posting the letter. That is interesting, especially since it references regs related to FFL's and not non-licensees. Most home gunsmiths mark receivers they make. First, it's just good practice in case the firearm is ever stolen. Second, receivers are typically heat treated which makes i...

Re: Building a Gun

Thanks for posting the letter. That is interesting, especially since it references regs related to FFL's and not non-licensees. I wish we could trust ATF letters, in light of the Akins decision, the shoestring decision, and so on. There were letters related to those, too. I'm not going to be a test ...

Re: Rifle case question

What brand is the case you bought at Ahlman's? I just looked at it and it's not marked. I threw away the tag a while ago. It's very similar to the Blackhawk discreet case. It has handles on the top edge plus two removable backpack straps on the back, with d-rings for a strap in the middle of the ba...

Re: Building a Gun

What paperwork did you expect to fill out, and who were you going to send it to? I don't know... I don't plan on selling my guns... but this is what I read from the ATF, maybe it just applies to SA rifles...: Also, for your information, a nonlicensee may manufacture a semiautomatic rifle for his or...
