Re: Brass vs Steel Case Ammo

Also be sure to consider the # of rounds shot in a specific time frame....and so the resulting barrel temps, etc.

My barrel doesn't see that kind of intense use, which in my opinion, makes the test results somewhat null/void for my situation.

YMMV

Re: Anyone here hunt deer with an AR style of rifle?

PHATSPEED7x,
How do you like that stock? Who makes it? While it works ok, I'm not too crazy about the generic M4 type stock on mine. I like that mine is adjustable but it isn't the most comfortable for long range shooting, in my opinion.

Re: 6.5 Grendel AR

I caught the info about the Wolf ammo on another forum. Looking forward to giving it a try. Would be nice to have some plinking ammo for when a friend wants to try it....then I don't have to burn up my good hand loads. ;)

Re: Anyone here hunt deer with an AR style of rifle?

When I retire and move back to Bemidji (2016), I'll be using my 6.5 Grendel for deer season....or....Mrs. O. will want it and I'll have to find something else (like one of my .308s). With Nosler 120 gr bullets, it delivers over 1000 ft lbs of energy @ 300 yards. http://www.stu-offroad.co...

Re:

Excellent! I'm getting a 6.5 Grendel next weekend! I believe you are really going to enjoy it. I scored 500 bullets from MidwayUSA. Got an e-mail saying they got some Hornday 123 gr A-Max bullets in so I order 5 boxes. They are a bunch cheaper than the 120gr Nosler BTs I had been shooting. This wil...

Re: 6.5 Grendel AR

Managed a trip to the range early this morning. I decided on a Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16x42 optic for the Grendel. It worked great. I was on the bull @ 100 yds in 4 shots. http://www.stu-offroad.com/firearms/65grendel/65grendel15.jpg Spent time shooting a new batch of my 95 gr Horna...

Re: 6.5 Grendel AR

I have a Vortex Viper PST FFP 4-16x50 mil-dot on my .308 bolt gun. I've decided that for my hunting needs (and some target shooting), I'm going to spend a bit less and get the Viper HS 4-16x44 with BDC. I think that will do OK for me. Some of those desirable 6.5mm bullets are very hard to come by, f...

Re: 6.5 Grendel AR

Ghost,
I assume you are talking about factory ammo? If not, what are you using for brass, bullets, and powder?

When you look at the down range ballistics, it is a great cartridge. One of these days I'll get the optic (waiting for someone to put it on sale) I want for mine....and a trigger. :)

Re: 6.5 Grendel AR

Thanks for sharing the .50 BMG information. Wow, talk about a quick way to eat a pound of powder. Good luck on the remainder of your load development....hope you find a good one (or three). :)

Re: 6.5 Grendel AR

Sam, You got me on the 6.5 Hansel. Maybe I can convince the Mrs. that she can keep the Grendel and I need a new Hansel. ;) The barrel is 24" long, the only length Alexander Arms provides in the Overwatch. It is longer than necessary for hunting, but on my property, 90% of the hunting is done al...

6.5 Grendel AR

With an itch for a new caliber and less than two years till retirement, I decided to give the 6.5 Grendel a try using the AR platform. Once back in Minnesota, me (or the Mrs.) will use it for deer and varmint hunting along with some target shooting. The more I began reading about the 6.5mm bullet in...

Re: Range Finders, what are some good ones?

I use a Zeiss victory PRF 8x26 also. Are there other brands available? It is rated for 1300 yds and while using it at a precision rifle class, it consistently and accurately ranged metal targets at 1200+ yards. The targets were set using a surveying GPS so the distance was known. Didn't have...

Re: Reading a lot about scopes but.........

Here you go....a pic of the scope on my .308 bolt gun. It is a Vortex Viper PST optic. You can see the external turrets for easy adjustment of elevation and windation. Each of those white marks will move the point of impact .1 mil.....or .36".....at 100 yds. My optic also has mil marks on the r...
