Gen 2s don't fit too well in some billet lowers like my Spikes the Jack lower. Gen 3s are true milspec and fit fine. I really like the identification feature as I do use different ammunition. If that matters to you buy Gen 3 or stick with Gen 2.

Anything in the lower receiver, I was taught with a roll of tape. Set the lower on the tape roll making sure the pins will fall through the middle of the tape roll.
