Re: Different types of rimfire...

In my experience a .17 HMR is great for shooting crows and varmints smaller than a raccoon. I popped a raccoon once with mine at 150 yards and had to run after it and put it down. They just don't penetrate all that well, and if they hit a bone, forget about it. They are quite accurate, but just not ...

Re: What do you hunt?

I assume only things that you have actually killed count... In MN the smallest I have hunted would be field mice with a .22 revolver. I think I got one in years of trying... Legal game, doves. Largest would be deer. Never drew a moose permit here, and I guess I never will. Most days afield would be ...

Re: I touched a Glock......(shiver)

If you want to do it right, you need a 9mm barrel, not a .38S. (.355 vs .356) Since you are the noob roaster, whaddya think you are doing making an overbore barrel??? You will blow an eye out or something... (I have 2 9x25's. They won't let me play with them at any USPSA matches because they hurt t...

Re: Barnes reloading manual load data?

Any reloading guru who does not realize that each gun is a rule in itself, and the "best" loading is just what was best for that particular barrel needs to RTFM.

Re: I touched a Glock......(shiver)

Pretty much any custom smith can rechamber a 9mm barrel to 9x25. If you want to do it right, you need a 9mm barrel, not a .38S. Re: Apathy of a gun owner

The give me liberty or give me death/the purpose of the 2nd A is to defend yourself from the government plays well with a very limited group of people, and coincidentally, they already support the pro gun status, so it's really useless as a political persuasion point. Giving police response times, a...

Re: Tall sized Camo retailer???

I have brought lots from Cabelas, but in store usually is pretty slim pickings. If you talk to them, they could order it in, or conversely they do allow you to order on line and pick up at their store. I would presume that would give you a chance to try it on and make sure it fits as you wish if tha...

Re: First kill of 2013 Fall season- post em up!

What do you do with all the meat with that thing? I am sure there is more then enough meat to cook a meal or two. I got a pair of meals out of him. The big use of the meat is to the local villages (in this case the Forestry employees and their families- about 50-100 people)- they dry the meat and u...

Re: Minnesota Orchestra

I really doubt music is going away in MN. World class musicians at the MN orchestra, maybe. Personally with over 80% high frequency hearing loss, I can't tell average from exceptional performers anyhow. I have been to multiple Twins, Vikings, and North Stars (won't see the xmas trees) and lumberpupp...

Re: Copper vs Lead Bullets for hunting...........

To me, monometal bullets do have their place. I use them extensively in Africa on bigger animals. However, there are a few downsides to them. As mentioned, they are longer than the conventional bullets. In a .416 Rigby, you have enough case capacity its no big deal, but trying to get top velocities ...

Re: Error in Lyman 49 or a learning opportunity for me?

The manuals do mention this issue...within a brand of powder. They state that between manuals you will see differences, and that this is likely due to lot to lot inconsistencies. I really doubt that a lot of HP38 and 231 are from the same blended lot, so it certainly doesn't surprise me that the num...
