I am looking at a Steyr Mannlicher in 7x57 that the guy thinks is 1950's production when this style kind of came back for a bit. It is in pristine shape with a full mannlicher style stock, butter knife bolt handle (very smooth). 18" barrel (my guess) that has some "twist" style to it....
But jack oconnor was a hired hand of Winchesters who wrote to sell model seventy's on .270 Winchester. Context has a lot to do with which gun is best. I was on an elk hunt in Idaho where it was very thick timber with only small meadows and wash out areas for clearings. All of the elk shot were with...
Two points, bullet selection and shot placement. If you do these two correctly then these are fine calibers to use on Elk. In general, I agree. But after humping my butt up and down too many mountains I have learned that elk, being wild animals, don't always like to stand still, close, or with a pe...
The thing is, all these people who hunt big game with medium to light caliber rifles are not paying what we have to pay for elk tags in Colorado. A Colorado resident elk tag is about $25. A non-resident tag is over $500. Not to forget guide fees, lodging, food and gas. We can't afford to have a lig...
Glad to see 1911fan mention the 7mm-08 to you. That would be my reccomendation. No offense meant to the .308, but the 7mm-08 shoots flatter and is ,in my opinion, the superior cartidge in that it can do anything the .308 can do. On the hunting side of things you could do much worse than the 7mm-08 a...
H&H, back then it was USPS delivery to the mailbox. NO stinkin' FFL's needed. I remember buying mossberg .22's from the army/CMP for $8.75 I still have a couple of them. There was a wholesaler in NYC that handguns from everywhere, I think RG's were 5 dollars, and H&R and Iver johnsons were ...

If you are taking rifle, it really can depend on the rifle itself. You have to put the range time in to find out what load will perform well in your firearm. I used to not beleive this, but after a couple of rifles that were very "finicky" I am a true beleiver in this. Handguns, in my opin...
I have purchased used at the store that seems to be the one being eluded to in this posting. I am confident that I got a good deal in this case. While often I find their used selection to be overpriced, I often find many vendors used selections to be overpriced. That said, my gun cabinets can attest...
Just wondering if anyone knows of a good spot within an hour of the twin cities (preferably south of the metro) for hunting late season rabbits. Wanted to take my kids out one last time before the season ends. I have hit a few of the WMAs in the past with no luck but will probably try a couple again...
