Re: GM has reloading supplies?!

It's possible they have another cabinet in the back made of steel for more supplies. I thought they were supposed to be stored in a steel cabinet....? I'm pretty sure this one was wood. Maybe I'll ask next time I'm there. NO! NO! NO! Never store smokeless powder in a metal cabinet. You end up with ...

Re: Finding powder in the Twin Cities

Ammo Craft in Hopkins isn't far from Gun Stop. Ron has some powder, but it was pretty limited when I was there last fall. Calling ahead would be a good idea. But it's another possibility.

Re: 30-30 Auction Reloads

The 'wax plug' may be filling the role of a gas check. Alternative materials have been used in place of a traditional brass cup-type gas check on the base of cast lead bullets. I have read of plastic, Teflon, aluminum (made in a die from pop cans - was sold on eBay), and wax being used for gas check...

Results of Target's New Gun Policy?

Headline: Target’s Gun Ban Has Unexpected Results As Assailants Attack Store’s Unarmed Customers Three days ago, Target enacted a new policy in which they asked customers to politely leave their guns at home or not bring them on the premises of any Target store. This was probably decided after a loa...

Re: Ammo salvage operation

Powder will fail first, the primers are actually water proof if you dry them out after getting wet. The factory stores them wet for safety reasons then blasts them dry right before they are put into the cases. Benny Assembled primers aren't stored wet. The priming compound is stored wet before it i...

Re: Some cases just won't size down far enough?

Range pickup brass. 9mm Major bulged out brass would certainly make sense as an explanation, especially given that I shoot USPSA on a regular basis, and there are several guys at OGC USPSA running 9mm Major guns. On some level, though, *they* all reload, and if the brass can stand multiple Major lo...

The Real Gun Problem Is Mental Heatlh

CNN commentator speaks to the real problem in this issue. Next time there's a mass shooting, don't jump to blame the National Rifle Association and lax gun laws. Look first at the shooter and the mental health services he did or didn't get, and the commitment laws in the state where the shooting too...

Gabby Giffords: Not Welcome

Democrats from pro-gun states tell ex-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords to stay away. Everybody loves Gabby Giffords — just not necessarily on the campaign trail. When the gun control advocacy group led by the former congresswoman from Arizona threw its support behind several endangered Senate Democrats in We...

Re: Un-Real!!!

What is even better is the SMLE No 4 MK 1 priced at $1400 they have floating around. I've seen it at Farmington, Blaine, and Cottage Grove over the last 4 years or so. It is a not uncommon U.S. Property marked gun made by Savage. I have asked several different times what makes that particular rifle...

This is a good local board. There are better ones for specific topics, but local activities and people make it a good place to hang out.

Grant Cunningham is a well known gunsmith, writer, and trainer. The link is to an article he wrote about his research/experience with gun lubes. Read the article for his recommendations. http://www.grantcunningham.com/lubricants101.html Excerpts: I use the General Rule of Lubrication...

MN Capitol Security Panel Seeking New Policy?

Just saw this in the Star & Sickle - An advisory committee on Minnesota Capitol security is preparing recommendations that could include a new notification process for handgun permit holders who want to bring firearms into the building. Someone seems to think that the current notification system...

Re: Gas Checks

I have a magazine article on it someplace. As I recall the home made ones didn't work so hot. They used a variety of materials. Plus - why? They are so cheap. Or just tune your loads down a hair and forget about gas checks totally. I ran some pretty hot loads out of my 44 and never used a gas check...
