Re: Democrats frown on targeting gang databases with 'red flag'

We actually debated this issue when trying to get MN's shall-issue law passed. The Dems wanted being listed in the gang database to be grounds for denial. I could see it being grounds for a more detailed look at a person before making a decision (they've got 30 days to approve or deny, after all), ...

Re: Democrats frown on targeting gang databases with 'red flag'

100% makes sense to prevent gang members from having guns, but due process is a thing that needs to be respected, even for people we "know" are bad people. Otherwise, if someone "knows" we're bad people, what's to stop them from giving us the same unfair treatment?

Re: Officer involved shooting St Paul

Wow, the cognitive dissonance of that first quote (Danielle Swift) is downright amazing. How does someone justify to themselves having access to evidence, *not* viewing said evidence, and then publicly condemning the person the evidence shows to have acted within the law, policy, and their own natur...

Re: Inexpensive bullet source?

After finding out about Montana Gold (http://montanagoldbullet.com), I have been using them almost exclusively. I order by the case. Even ordering by the case, MGs are expensive. IIRC 124 gr 9mm (JHP, FMJ, or CMJ) is still around 10 cents/bullet when bought by the case from them. Nice bullets, but ...

Re: why medical records and gun laws should still be separate???

I think it's mildly silly that weed is on the federal controlled substance list, but until such time as it becomes federally legalized, this is just one of many "gotchas" people have to be aware of when purchasing guns. It's not like any of this stuff is a secret, and reading the plain lan...

Re: 2019 Legislature-Will we be thrown under the bus?

I think it is too late once they get into office. A much more vigorous effort should be put into backing and electing candidates who best reflect your views. Yes but if you live in a district full of morons you should not give up. That's pretty tough when you can't see how your efforts achieve anyt...

Re: 2019 Legislature-Will we be thrown under the bus?

Just respond with I will continue to vote against you in every election and tell everyone I know that you do not believe in the constitution. I left out the bit about the constitution, but my initial email did include a line about feeling obligated to vote against him even if I dislike his opponent...

Re: 2019 Legislature-Will we be thrown under the bus?

I recently wrote to my representative to inform him that he had voted incorrectly at every chance he got this year, and gave some examples of why I thought his votes were incorrect. No reply so far, but given that he's DFL and has a history of voting for gun control regulations, I expect that if I g...

Re: Second Amendment Protection Act

I really doubt this will gain any traction until such time as marijuana is federally legal, at which point the 4473 will basically have to change. That said, I'd be quite shocked if there weren't hundreds of thousands of 4473s where people have lied on that question even from before Colorado led the...

Re: Sheriff slashes PTC Fees for Vets & Ret. Police

A) The "reasonable and direct cost..." of the permit processing is less than $100 in which case the sheriff is breaking the law as written when they charge everyone else "full price" Given that not all of them charge the same price, this has always seemed likely to me, even outs...

Re: Sheriff slashes PTC Fees for Vets & Ret. Police

so why does a Veteran have to pay an additional fee to have a Veterans License Plate........................ Is that more equal or less equal...... Because that's a non-standard option, roughly equivalent to getting a custom/vanity plate. In terms of PTC, the "product" is the same, so why...

Re: MN Committee Meeting on UBC

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman stated he did not prosecute illegal purchases of firearms because they were too busy to waste their time on such minor crimes (misdemeanors). Ugh, really? That must be in a part of it that I haven't gotten to yet. (I'm only about an hour in, and I can only take...

Re: MN Committee Meeting on UBC

Thanks for the Youtube link. That's just what I was looking for. Honestly, I just followed bstrawse's instructions, but I figured it couldn't hurt to make it easy for anybody else. I haven't watched the whole thing yet myself, but the lies and/or partial truths several of the people called to testi...

Yup. This is not new news, and not a new pattern. Look at the history of gun laws in Britain over the last ~150 years. We're on a somewhat similar trajectory, unfortunately.
