It absolutely can be depending on the delivery regardless of their ability to back it up..... but John Walton isn't arrogant. The man knows his stuff, is helpful and honest, and as a result gets my money.
If you're reading this, there are better than even odds you are a d-bag.

Wow Sam. I don't even reload and was insulted. I don't know if that was your intent but that's how it read.

I found John a little off putting at first, but now that he knows me I find it's a lot better. You just need to get to know him and how he operates. I shop there and will continue to do so. I know the advice I get is sound, and that's important to me. I plan to go there tomorrow for bullets and brass. Probably other stuff too. I never know until I look over the supplies.

I shop on the internet, get better prices than any of those stores, and don't have to deal with any of the bull ****. That's just me.

John is not BS. That is the absolute FURTHEST thing from the truth there is. He is not into hand holding, but he's into a very serious, and possibly dangerous activity and he will make absolutely positively sure that you are doing it right before you leave the store. He has a near photographic memory about what you have bought from him, what calibers you load for, and what new products he has that will work for you. He will not share the love, its not his job, He will however treat you with absolute respect and graciousness if you show up and have a need for his products and advice. If you show up and try to bluff your way thru it, he will call you on it. ( re, plblarks comments above. )

I do not get the enmity that some have toward his personality. Two years ago I told him I was looking for something, if it came in used, Feb of this year I get a call, "do you still want this"? I did and I bought it. Will he commiserate with you regarding your wife's troubles or the state of politics in Chechnia, no, but he will do everything he can to find you the products you need to load your ammo.

My comment had nothing to do with John at Gun Stop specifically, just a general comment on worrying about customer service and running all over the metro trying to decide where you shop. I can do it from my computer, get it cheaper, and they bring it right to my door. That's all.

Doesn't matter. Sam wiped his post. My comment doesn't make much sense without it.

My thanks to Mo the Mouse for his honest criticism - I appreciate it, and I wiped the post accordingly

Leaving that aside, for the first 20 years of my reloading experience, the ONLY way into this hobby was reading MULTIPLE WHOLE manuals cover to cover. There was no John-Boy, and the people at Tecto and other shops that have long since closed were only there to sell reloading components. They didn't reload ammo themselves. They just sold the hardware. As such, you NEVER ran into anybody who was into reloading who didn't have a damn good idea of what it was they were doing. No internet. Hell, no personal computers back then!! The die sets didn't come with much in the way of instructions as far as I can remember, and neither did the rest of the hardware. You either cracked the books like your life depended on it, or you didn't get into reloading to begin with.

That was then, and this is now. I'm an old man beating a dead horse because of it... Move along, nothing to see here...
