I've got a Rock Chucker and a 650XL. I've got dies from RCBS, Dillon, Hornady, Redding and Lee. Lee is by far one of my favorite dies for single stage loading, the dillons are hard to beat for progressive speed though.

all i have now is lee dies. do the lee dies work well with a hornady LNL progressive? or would it be a good idea to get another set of dies that are more progressive friendly?

I haven't used a Hornady LNL so I couldn't tell you, however jfettig has/had a LNL.

I had a bunch of RCBS dies ... only trouble I ever had was on some of 'em, they'd bottom out on the shellplate 'fore the crimp'd engage.

If ya ever need to buy new dies for something ya wanna do on the LNL, I'd just get Hornady dies. I have lots of 'em ... no problems!

Otherwise, I'd say go ahead and try the Lee dies ya got ... and just watch as ya set your crimp ... if, as ya turn the die down, it gets harder to lever, and there's little/no difference, watch the shellplate!

I've also run the .40 Lee FCD on my Hornady ... no problems!

Oh ya ... and don't give up on the dies, too quickly ... the indexing might need a bit of tweeking ... it's simple to do ... just gotta F with it for a few minutes ... then you're good to go!

I'm in the same shoe's as wrench for the most part. I do like Redding dies the best, but do use and like the Hornady ND's for cast bullets when I use them.

I have a hornady lnl, lee classic cast for single stage. Rcbs scales, and other tools made by dillion and redding. I'd be suspicious of anyone who endorses one brand above all else for every application. My dies are a mixture as well. I don't like using the FCD dies made by lee, I think they only serve to cover up bad reloading practices, I have used them before however when all else failed. I love the EGW undersize resizing dies, they work nearly as well as the push through dies. I hate dillion resizing dies for pistol, their mouth is so wide, they won't even fight modest glock bulge.

When it comes to presses I bleed RED. Hornadys Lock & Load AP all the way, screw Blue and


I have 3 other single stage presses, a RCBS Rock Chucker that has been mothballed, a new Hornady LNL single stage that I sometimes use for doing the 338 Lapua and then a Harrell’s Precision Combo Benchrest press that I take to the range when I want to develop on the spot.

As far as rifle dies go, Redding Comp dies all the way.

For a scale I use a Denver Instruments MXX-123 milligram unit (.02 gr)

For priming I use the Sinclair stainless priming tool, nothing holds a candle to this unit (ok maybe the K&M)

For neck turning (when I do it) I have the K&M unit with the carbide mandrels K&M expander dies

For precise measuring I rely on a home built neck thickness gage based off a Mitutoyo 6 place digital mic head (X.XXXXX”). I use a Sinclair concentricity gage to check runout, a Mitutoyo 6 place micrometer to measure loaded round neck diameter and a Mitutoyo Digital caliper with the Hornady comparator for checking OAL’s. I also use the Hornady/ Stoney Point OAL modified case setup for finding the lands and tracking throat erosion.

just put together the LNL today and found out possibly why it was in the bargain cave, its missing the retainer spring ( the one that goes around the shell plate) and its misisng the equipment to change over to small primers. cabelas should have this stuff right? i know i need a 45 shell plate, but i should grab a spring and hopefully small primer conversion as well.

Cabelas will not have the parts, nobody in town will. I smoked a few springs back in the day and just called up Hornady and had them send me 10 of them for next to nothing.

Whatever ragged!!! i have a .223 i would like to possibly try sometime on the press, but ill probably end up just using my turret press for that, and trickling the powder in the scale to be exact. but i DO need that spring. anyone got an extra? or 2 or 5?
