ALRIGHT UPDATE:

Went to Gun Stop this morning, talked to John, told him my story, got the Redding resizing die and Imperial wax. Went home posted about it, went downstairs and took some (this is for Sam) Winchester and Remington .223 once fired out of an DPMS AR 15 and no they do not stick to a magnet so their not steel. Applied the wax to just the body and not the neck (as instructed by John), let it dry for a few mins. slowly raised it in the ram.. came out no problems. I did about 10 total of the .223.

Then I took some once fired LC 07 5.56 from the same DPMS AR 15, applied wax ran it all the way up and no problems.

BTW all the cases i ran through the die were already deprimed, so all the die was doing at the time was resizing.

I then got the idea to take those brass pieces from earlier that have that definite line around them where the sizing quit, and run the through the new die. After I ran those threw... they were no good. That line was pressed in there. You could drag your nail across it and it would catch. So I scrapped those. Oh and those (This is for Sam) those cases were the same as before, a few .223 Win and Rem and a few LC 06-07 5.56. all brass and no steel.

IN Conclusion, I must not have waited long enough to let the One Shot dry, when removing the cases the drill bit messed up the old die, the new one works perfect and the imperial wax seems to be working great.

Glad to hear it. I thought that stuff looked like nickled brass (got a bunch myself) but you never know what those sneaky Rooskies will try next. And screwing up the die with the drill bit also makes sense, so I think you're out of the woods. The imperial die wax is THE way to go, and it's what the wildcatters like to use when they're making 25-06 cases out of 30-06 cases...

I have my doubts. I don't think a drill bit would have caused the die to make such a uniform ring on the cases. And I'd think a drill bit would have more likely removed material from the die making it easier for the case to enter, rather than making the die opening tighter causing it to actually abrade brass from the case body.

+1 on doubting the drill bit damaged the die. Those suckers are harder than hell, somewhere in the neighborhood of 50rc.

This thread got me to thinking, so I took a sizing die to work today and checked the hardness. 32-35rc.

You can see there is something in the die, id say its a mark from the drill bit, it almost looks like shaved brass in the first pic.
The third pic is a case i ran through the Hornady messed up die and it left those marks, then i ran it again through the Redding die and it definately left a ridge where that mark is. It almost feels like you took a pipe cutter and went once or twice around the shell.

Get some brake cleaner and start fresh.
Too much lube, not enough reading. RTFM or you'll blow your **** hands off.

Clean the brass. Clean the dies. Use just a tiny bit of Dillon case lube and call it good.

**** can all nickel plated crap too. And go watch Jon Boy at Gunstop throw some loads and learn how it's done.

And on that subject, what reloading manual do you own, and have you actually read ALL of the information about how to reload, or just glossed over the .223 loading data??

Thanks Boss.

Yea i cleaned up all the dies and brass before i started and with the new die and lube it works perfect.

I have the 49th edition Lymann, the Load Book on loading the .223, newest Hodgdon loading magazine. And have visited sites such as http://www.6mmbr.com/223Rem.html http://ultimatereloader.com/ along with various sites i can't recall at the time but were very usefull when i was doing homework on loading them.

You're doing it wrong, I've got no less than 15,000 rounds of 223 thru thru my Hornady FL die all lubed with One Shot, never had a stuck case in my life and I don't gob it on, if anything I make sure my brass is nice and clean and go light on lube.

To the OP, return that die, something is out of wack.

First off Thank You 45badger for letting me come over and showing me how to kick out some shells. Second, I got home and lubed/sized 642 cases without a single problem. Tomorrow I will be trimming and deburring.
