A ballpark figure to reload .338 Lapua

I'm looking at buying the Badnews .338 Lapua http://www.onlylongrange.com/badnews.asp
Can anyone give me an idea how much it will cost to reload this round. I would have the reloader but need the ball, powder, brass and primer.
I have never done any reloading of centerfire cartridges so any idea would be helpful.
I'm looking at this route because the cost of new OEM rounds are

For your first hundred rounds...

Brass: Lapua - $230

Bullets: Sierra MatchKing - $64

Primers: Federal #215 - $3.50

Powder: Alliant Reloder 19 - $22

$3.20/round

Subsequent loadings using the same brass: $.90/round

Since there are 7000 grains per pound, this assumes 70 grains of powder per round. I think it may take a bit more, but you said ballpark.

Tax and/or shipping are not factored in. Again, ballpark.

Let me know when you'll be at the range with that beast!

Honestly it's not that bad to reload depending upon the bullets and powder you want to use. To me it's about the same cost as .300WM since you can get deals on .338 bullets quite often.

I have no idea what I'm getting myself into! My neighbor Geezer43 has Skillz, He volunteered to help.

Problem 1: You got a glossy ad for an AR-15 platform for .338 Lapua, and NO PROOF that it WILL shoot as well as a bolt gun. Strike one!!

Problem 2: The barrel length is right, and the twist is right, but the powder isn't. .338 thrives on Retumbo and RL-25, and near 100 grains of each. RL-19 is too fast, and 75 grains of RL-19 is going to leave a lot of empty space in the case, which could lead to a detonation and a blown gun. Strike two!!

Problem 3: You're buying an $8000 rifle fully equipped, and you OBVIOUSLY don't have a reloading manual that costs less than 30 bucks to tell you what proper loads for a 338 Lapua are. STRIKE THREE!!

As you said, and you are absolutely right, you have NO idea what you are getting yourself into, and there are some very subtle twists to shooting .338 Lapua from a semi-automatic rather than a bolt gun that could get you into BIG, BIG, trouble when you reload the cases for the second time.

So when a kid is about to run into traffic to get a ball, do you:

1) mentor him or her to safety

- or -

2) do you do whatever it takes to get their attention immediately & stop all forward progress, then - & only if you feel like it - attempt to mentor him or her regarding what was about to happen & why?

I choose (2) every day of the week & twice on Sunday. I hope I'm lucky enough to have Sam "mock" me in such a manner if he ever sees me about to "run into traffic"...
