going to progressive

Postby ScatterGun4015 on Sun Jul 10, 2011 6:43 pm

So after owning my lee classic turret for a year and a half, my shooting habits have surpassed my reloading. I have reloaded around 7000 rounds through my lee and now am starting to look into a speedier process for reloading. I am leaning towards dillon. Is there any pros going to rcbs or sticking with lee? I have no reloading experience with the lee or rcbs progressive. I really liked the way the dillon operated. What are your recommendations?

Take this for what you paid for it. I just went from a RCBS single stage to a Dillon 550B. I love the thing. I got a smoken deal on mine. After I got it I talk to John at the Gunstop about them and he sells them for $408 and you get a free lesson on how to use it.
I love my Dillon, I don't know if I would ever by anything but a Dillon as far as presses go. I had some issues with mine. I contacted Dillon and told them I bought the press second hand and they said it didn't matter they sent me replacement parts for free.

I've got a Dillion 650 and it is a fantastic machine. But if I were buying my first progressive today I would also consider the Hornady unit. I had a chance to run one this past winter and it is a very nice machine and I would be hard pressed to justify the price difference for the Dillion.

Please don't take this wring I've got 40,000-60,000 through the Dillion and have had no failures, issues or concerns. But the Hornday unit made one heck of a great impression in the 3000 rounds I ran through it.

I'm rocking a Dillon 650xl with a case feeder. No complaints here, once you have everything tweaked, it's a speed machine.

Get a hornady, PM Rugersol and he'll either chime in here, or fill you in with the why.

I love my Hornady and it will load very accurate rifle ammo, no runout, no change in oal that can be an issue with others.

I like my Hornady. Around 3,000 45 ACP and 3,000 rifle rounds. Only problems were user error.

addinfg to the koolaid debate, i have a hornady lock n load. for the price difference between it and the blue, it was an easy choice.

Dillon's a good machine ... so's the Hornady.

Where folks F up is they price-match a 550 to a Hornady ... 550 don't "auto-index" (not that it's the end of the world). When price-matching, ya gotta look at the 650 vs. the Hornady LNL-AP.

Then take off 500 free XTP's they send ya fer buyin' it.

... and 'nother $85 off the register at Cabela's if ya time it right.

How bad ya like baby-blue? Image
